it was now a few hours past Meredith leaving. Violet woke up around eleven as he predicted and Meredith indeed could have stayed longer then she did but she chose not to. he wasn't upset with her for it but he still wished she had stayed longer.

he was never alone because he always had the kids but he still felt lonely. he never really had anyone to talk to.

at work the only friend he had was Mark who he had known since he was a child. when he was with Addison he could never speak to her and when he did try and changed the subject to her and her life.

but with Meredith he felt more comfortable talking about himself and his life. she never changed the subject to her or brought up her life.

she just listened. she listened to everything he had to say and sometimes asked questions and she didn't speak until he was finished what he was saying and she would give her take on it, only if he wanted it of course.

if he asked for her advice or her opinion on something she would give her honest opinion, even if she didn't think he would like it.

and sometimes he didn't like it but he never got upset with her because he appreciated her honesty instead of just telling him what he wanted to hear like most women would.

he would rather her tell him something he didn't want to hear then lie to her and make a mistake.

today he didn't ask for her take but she gave it anyways and as much as he didn't like it but she was right.

the kids needed to get used to Meredith and get comfortable with her before she started staying night and staying in the mornings.

he didn't know why he couldn't see it but Meredith could. that's why he needed her, because she saw things he didn't, she felt things he didn't, she knew things he didn't.

he saw things in black and white and she didn't. he needed a spoon full of that in his life.

he knew Meredith was right about the kids needing to get more comfortable but he wasn't sure how.

Violet seemed to like Meredith very much, maybe she would have an idea or two on how they could become more comfortable around her.

When Violet woke up Derek was in the kitchen cooking breakfast for them, well it was more like brunch.

he plated some food for her before going upstairs to check on the other kids. he first checked Michaels room. his room had dirty clothes thrown all over the floor, the desk, the dresser, and on his bed. he had asked Michael to clean his room days ago.

Derek signed before walking into the room. he picked up all the dirty clothes scattered all over the room and tossed them all into the laundry basket.

he picked up the laundry basket and brought it into the laundry and left it in there for when he was going to do the laundry.

he left the laundry room and went into Madeleine's bedroom. when he walked in he found her sitting at her desk working on what seemed to be homework.

"What are you doing up so early?" he asked as he walked further into the room to see what she was working on.

"Your new girlfriend woke me up," she said with her head down working on her work.

"What?" he asked confused. Meredith had left at seven in the morning and the kids never woke up that early on weekends. if he didn't wake them up they wouldn't wake up that early on week days.

"I'm kidding. Violet woke me up. she said she had a bad dream and when she woke me up and I told her to go away she got annoyed and opened my curtains before leaving the room,"

"What time was this?"

"I don't know maybe around eight," she shrugged. Meredith left at seven. had she stayed any later there was a good chance that Violet would have seen her and she could have told Madeleine when she woke her up.

"I made breakfast, you can come eat if you're hungry," he kissed the side of her head before leaving the room.

They had almost gotten caught on the first night she stayed over. well not almost gotten caught but had Meredith listened to Derek they most likely would have.

now he was kind of glad Meredith was so persistent on leaving when she did.

he had already eaten breakfast so he decided to take Madeleine and Violet's dirty laundry as well and start washing them.

first he picked out all the whites from all three baskets and tossed those into the wash. he had some detergent and softener before closing the lid and turning the machine on. he had washed his clothes the other day so he didn't need to wash his clothes.

once the clothes were in the wash he went back downstairs and into the kitchen to find Michael sitting at the kitchen eating his breakfast.

"Good morning, Michael... did you notice the lack of clothes around your bedroom?" he walked over to his son, placing a hand on the side of his head before kissing it.

Michael was quick to wipe away the kiss from his disheveled hair.

"Nope, and I liked it the way it was," he groaned leaning his head against the palm of his hand.

"Well there's something I hope you grow out of. what did you think of Meredith? you didn't really say much,"

"she seemed nice," he shrugged.

"That's it?"

"Well I don't really know her that well but from what I know she seems nice,"

"Would you be okay with seeing her again?"

"Sure, I guess,"

"All right, I'll arrange that," he smiled small.

Now all he needed to do was get Madeleine to open up to the idea of having Meredith around more, then they could take the next step and they could be in a real relationship without any worries.
