He was a neurosurgeon, one of the the best. She was just starting off. He had been married with children before his wife left him before one day he received divorce papers in the mail. They had been alone ever since.
Derek had just left his house and he was on his way to Meredith's to tell her that he had told the news about them to the kids.
he had already warned her that Madeleine was still under the influence that Addison was still coming back and wouldn't be thrilled of the idea but that morning she didn't seem to feel so strongly about it as much.

They were now laying in bed. Derek sat against the headboard with Meredith between his legs. his arms were wrapped around her waist his the side of his head against the soft porcelain skin of her back.
Meredith's hair was tied up in a messy bun as her hair continued to get in the way. the strands of blonde hair continued to stick to the sweat on her forehead.
they had just finished many rounds of hot and sweaty sex. they were now just enjoying each others company in comfortable silence.
Before Derek arrived he stopped by the grocery store and picked up a few things so he could cook Meredith something to eat.
When he arrived Meredith wasn't in sight so he used the key she had given him for just in case. he put everything away and found Meredith in her room putting away some laundry.
They spoke for a bit about their lives and what had been going on before he decided to cook for her. once they finished eating they cleaned the dishes before things started to get heated up.
Which took them to now in bed, naked.
"Other than Madeleine the kids seemed pretty okay with me dating you," he whispered against her skin.
"They don't even know me, for all they know I eat children," she replied tiredly as she leaned back into his chest.
"They don't think you eat children... Madeleine just found out I was never in love with her mother and that the only woman I've been in love with is a woman she doesn't even know," he said.
"I think Violet and Michael would be ready to meet you pretty soon, it's only Madeleine that I'm worried about.. she asked me if I was going to marry you," he said a little skeptical at what she might say.
"What did you tell her?" she asked with her eyes closed as she adjusted her head against his chest.
"I said that I hoped to marry you one day but that's all I told her, she asked a few more questions the morning after.. but the other two didn't because it took Violet twenty minutes to find her shoes and ten to figure out which shoe went on what foot so they were late," he said.
"What time is it? shouldn't you be picking up the kids from school?" she sat up and picked up his watch off the nightstand.
"I don't know what time it is," he held her hand as she held the watch and checked the time.
"We still have twenty minutes," he kissed her cheek before pulling her back into his chest.
"Well doesn't it take at least ten minutes to get from my place to the kids school," she tried moving out of his arms again.
"Meredith, the kids are fine, and if the school calls me and I don't answer they'll try another time before they'll try calling Addison even though it won't work and then they'll call Mark," he kissed from her neck leading down her back.
"Why do they still have her number if she lives in LA now?" she asked suppressing a moan as Derek worked on one spot on her neck just below her jawline.
"I don't know, I told them to get rid of it but they say they can't because she's still alive,"
"Okat it's been almsot ten minutes, you should probaly go get the kids now," she pulled her neck away from him and turned around in his lap.
"Ugh," he groaned as he picked up his watch one again and checked the time.
"Five more minutes," he smiled before he leaned down to kiss down her chest.
"Derek, I don't know if I can take another round in five minutes," she giggled before getting out of his lap and out of bed.
"Fine, I'll go get the kids," he sighed as he removed the covers off his body and started to get dressed.
"You make it sound like picking your kids from school is so terrible," she said as she finished buttoning her jeans.
"It's not terrible picking them up, it's just horriblel that I have to leave you, that's all," they finsihed getting dressed and Derek grabbed his things.
he kissed Meredith goodbye before leaving Meredith's place to go pick up the kids.
