He was a neurosurgeon, one of the the best. She was just starting off. He had been married with children before his wife left him before one day he received divorce papers in the mail. They had been alone ever since.
Meredith sat in the living room for around twenty minutes before the yelling stopped and Derek came into the house.
"Where are the kids?" He asked walking into the living room and taking a seat next to her.
"The little girls are in the playroom and the older kids are pouting in their room," she said.
"Were they pretty upset?" He asked. "They weren't mad, I think it just brought up a lot of old emotions that they haven't dealt with since she left. They should be fine in a couple of days," she said.
"What did Violet think?" He asked. "She didn't even recognize her, I told her when she asked but she remembers nothing and Lillian couldn't care less, so everyone is fine," she said.
"Do I need to talk to them?" He asked. "If you want. I explained it to the best of my abilities and they seemed to understand everything just fine so I don't think so. Did she leave?" She said.
"Eventually, took a lot of yelling. I haven't yelled that much in a long time," he said.
"Yeah, if you ever yell at me like that I'm leaving your sorry ass," she said. "That's reasonable," he said.
"Did she say anything to you?" He asked. "She forgot she had a son, she mentioned she always wanted a blonde, and then she asked if we wanted more children," she said.
"What did you tell her?" He asked. "I told her I wasn't sure. I wasn't going to tell you that we had been trying the past couple of months," she said.
"Good, Addison is the last person you should tell about anything in your life," he said.
"That part I got," she said. "So why did Mom come back?" They heard Madeleine's voice come from the stairs.
"Richard needed a good fetal surgeon and she took the job," Derek said.
"So she works with you both every day?" She asked walking into the living room.
"She didn't ask to see any of you kids and we figured she'd leave eventually but she didn't, we were going to tell you but we didn't want you to be worried," he said.
"You told me she was here, why didn't you just tell me you worked with her," she said.
"Because I didn't want you to run into her," he said. "Then why was she here?" She asked.
"Because she wanted to talk about something," he said. "Like what?" She asked.
"She wanted to come back into your lives and I said no," he said. "Why not?" She said.
"Do you really want her back in your life after everything she put you through?" She said.
"No, but it would have been nice to be asked," she said.
"Is that the real reason she came to Seattle?" Meredith said.
"Yes, apparently she was just trying to hide it and that's why she came here," he said.
"And?" she said. "She'll be here for a couple of weeks but she does have a flight back to L.A, I think she just wanted to see would kind of reaction she would get and it turns out that Nancy was also part of all this and she's the one who told Addison I remarried and had a baby," he said.
"Yeah, I told you I had a feeling something was going to happen, at least now it's happened," she said.
"All that matters is that she's going to be leaving soon and then everything will go back to normal," he said.
"Maddy, you don't have to worry about any of this, she's going to go back to L.A.," he said.
"Fine, but tell Lillie to stay out of my stuff, she broke my mirror again," she said leaving the living room.
"What is it with that girl and glass?" She said. "I don't know, she says she likes the way it sounds when it breaks," he said.
"Okay I have to tell you something," she said sitting up straight and turning towards him.
"Why, what did you do?" He asked. "What? Nothing, I'm not Lillian. I'm pregnant, but I'm only eight weeks so I don't know if I should be telling you," she said.
"Don't worry, this is good knee, this is great news," he smiled brightly and pulled her in for a tight hug.
"That makes five kids, do you think we can do it?" She asked.
"Of course we can, we've done a baby before, we'll do great," he said kissing her neck.
"Why are you having second thoughts?" He asked pulling away slightly.
"No, no, it's just all real now, that's all," she nodded.
"We'll be fine, we've moved since then, we have a bigger house, we have more bedrooms, all the kids can have their own room when they're older, we have everything we need," he said.
"I know, but the thought of five kids... it sounds like a lot but when I think about the kids it doesn't seem too bad," she said.
"No, the hard part is telling the kids we're having another baby and telling Lillian she's not the baby of the family anymore," he said.
"Raising Lillian will never be easy," she said. "I have to go to the bathroom, listen in case Lillian breaks something else," she said kissing him on the lips before getting up.
