Meredith had just finished scrubbing out of surgery when she decided to go visit Lillian up in daycare.
As she arrived at the daycare centre she saw a red-headed woman that she had never seen before standing outside.
All the children that were in daycare were children of doctors or nurses that worked there but that woman didn't work there.
She thought maybe it was a family friend or something so she didn't think much of it before going inside.
"Hey Ladybug!" She lifted Lillian into her arms, kissing her cheek as she sat down on one of the bean bags.
"Hi!" She grinned. "How are you doing, are you having fun here?" She asked.
"Yeah, I like playing," she smiled. "Yeah, are you hungry? we can go get something to eat," she asked.
"Yes, where Daddy?" She asked. "I'm not sure but I can page him, let's go get you something to eat," she said.
She stood up and took Lillian with her as they left the daycare centre.
She paged Derek to the cafeteria as they took the elevator. She placed Lillian on the floor and held onto her hand.
They went down to the cafeteria she got them some food and sat down at one of the tables.
"Daddy coming?" Lillian asked. "He should be on his way," she said.
After a couple of minutes, Derek arrived. He sat down and had lunch with them.
"Where were you?" Meredith asked. "I was down in the pit doing consults, it's a busy day but no surgeries," he said.
"No brain surgeries you mean, I've been in and out today," she said.
"Are you trying to brag because I've had a slow day?" He grinned. "Yeah, it's fun to rile you up," she chuckled.
"Have you decided what specialty you want to go into?" He asked.
"I don't know yet, so far I like Neuro best but I wasn't sure how'd you feel about it," she said.
"What do you mean?" He asked. "If I went into neuro we would have to work together and I'm not very good with people telling me what to do. It could get messy," she said.
"Why would it get messy, we get along just fine, we have arguments every so often but nothing that's not normal," he said.
"Yes, but working together and living together, we'd never be apart, too much time with anybody can cause arguments, and strain in the relationship," she said.
"You shouldn't take a step back from your career because you're scared it won't work. We'll just have to make it work," he said.
"Easier said than done but I'll go for it," she nodded.
"You should," he said taking her hand into his and squeezing gently.
They had lunch together for around twenty-five minutes. Meredith said goodbye to Lillian while Derek spent some time with her before he would take her up to daycare while Meredith got back to work.
********
When it came to the end of Meredith's shift she got dressed into her day clothes before going up to Tyler daycare centre.
She checked to see if Lillian was still in daycare but she wasn't which meant Derek had picked her up since he had finished his shift before Meredith had.
Derek's car was already gone when she got to hers. They had driven in separately since Derek had started before she did.
When she got home the house was mostly quiet. She put down her things and went into the bedroom.
