Derek had been in a bit of a mood the rest of the day. She figured it was because of the conversation they had an hour ago.

she wanted to apologize but she didn't want to bring up the subject again knowing it could upset him even more than she already had.

They had finished with dinner and were getting ready for bed.

They hadn't spoken about the engagement since earlier but the kids didn't seem too upset about it either which was a good thing.

Derek still hadn't really spoken to her as they got ready and into bed.

He picked up his medical journal from his bedside table and began to read it.

"Derek?" She asked hesitantly.

"Hmm," he hummed distracted by the words.

"What do you think about a baby?" She asked. She had been thinking about it lately but she wasn't sure how to bring it up or if it was even worth mentioning.

He paused for a second and took his eyes away from the journal. He looked up at Meredith, reading her eyes to see if she was kidding or not.

"A baby?" He asked, shocked. They had only spoken about babies once and Meredith had never gotten back to him on it.

"Yes, our baby, I was thinking about it. You said you were happy with three but you would want more if I wanted one," she said. She didn't know what she was doing.

She didn't know if he was upset with her, or happy, or angry, or maybe even all of the above.

"You want to have a baby? My baby?" He said. He was still in shock. He didn't think Meredith would ever want kids of her own. He wasn't upset, he just wasn't sure if she was speaking or mind or being serious.

"Yes.. maybe... I don't know... I've been thinking about it and I don't think it's a bad idea. We're getting married, the kids are okay with it, and we're happy... I don't see why not," she said. Her voice was on edge. She sounded scared.

"Are you sure that's what you want? A baby is a lot of work. Once you have one you can't take it back Mer," he said.

"I know, I'm not delusional or stupid. What do you think?" She asked. She had a bit of Hope in her voice but she was still scared of what he would say.

She wanted a baby, she wanted to be a mother and she wanted to do it right. She never thought it would be something she wanted or something she would be good at.

But she knew she wouldn't be doing it alone. Derek knew what he was doing and he was good at it. She wanted to be a mother, she wanted that perfect fairy-tale life that she always secretly wanted but pushed it down so far because she didn't want to want it.

"Well, I told you I'd be up to it if you wanted a baby, are you sure this is what you want?" He asked.

"Yes, I'm sure," she said. "Alright, we'll have another baby," he smiled. She smiled in relief. They were really going to do this.

The rest of the night they spent with each other trying for a baby. Having a baby had entirely slipped their minds once they got carried away.

They had both came numerous times that they had lost count. Once they finished they were tired and out of breath so they called it a night.

The next morning they slept in a lot later than usual. It was a weekend so the kids didn't have school and they both worked night shifts at the moment.

Derek subtly woke up before Meredith. He was awake and conscious but made no effort to act on it.

He could hear Meredith snoring softly. She only ever snored if she had a long day or if she was exhausted, which happened to be every day.

She rarely snores when she napped on the couch. He noticed how easily she was able to fall asleep on the couch even if the kids were in the room being loud.

It showed how truly comfortable she was in the house with the kids. Sometimes they didn't really notice.

The kids didn't mind if she fell asleep. Madeleine especially was surprising by how comfortable she had become around Meredith.

She knew Meredith only meant well and she was never going to hurt them, especially not in the way their own mother had.

He carefully sat up while his brain felt as if it was still asleep once he started to hear the kids in the other room.

Meredith was still deep in a slumber when he looked to his side.

He let her continue to sleep while he got out of bed. He did the bare minimum and put on a pair of sweats since they had both slept naked the night before.

He went into the other room to find all three kids sitting in the living room watching TV while Violet played on the floor.

They were all somewhat still half asleep but they were slowly starting to wake up.

"Violet, do you want to help Daddy make breakfast?" He asked as Violet seemed the most awake out of the three.

"Where's Meredith?" She asked as she stopped playing and walked over to him.

"Meredith is extra tired this morning, she's still asleep," he said.

"Then we have to go wake her up!" She said before running towards the door.

"How about we wake her up once breakfast is ready?" I caught her before she could go any further. Meredith was in no way ready for a child at the moment.

"Okay!" She said before running into the kitchen while Derek followed after her to make breakfast.
