Even though Kaili and Xichen have worked out some personal issues. Kaili has been keeping her distance from Xichen slightly. She would still remain near him, but not as close as she used to be. Since the misunderstanding, her heart has been split into two pieces. Part of her knows that she forgives him, and that part of her has found a love in Xichen that she never expected to find. The other part was the pain that she kept.

She felt that since the misunderstanding, she felt under appreciated. Xichen told her to just maintain her snake form and leave him alone. At the moment she was laying near the fire pit to keep warm. While she was there, she was thinking about her time since being in Lan Xichen's presence.

She wondered if Xichen really had a need for her anymore, and the connection between spiritual companion and owner was slowly started to break. She could feel it. She knows Xichen could feel it too, and wondered if that was what she wanted. It's been almost two months now and things do not seem to change between them.

She shifted to her human form and stood before Xichen, "if we do not work this out, I will let the connection break and you and I will no longer be spiritually connected. I feel as if you do not want me here any longer."

"That's not it at all. I want you here, and I enjoy your company. It's just been a long few weeks you know," Xichen said.

Kaili sighed and knelt beside him, "why do I feel that is not all of it?" She asked, "It is obvious that yes, you want me here, but you are still trying to work things out and I do not want to be here to take the blunt or your anger every time," she said and placed her hand over his chest. Before Xichen could say anything, Kaili removed the connection between them, "you saved my life and I saved yours. A life for a life. We will more than likely cross paths again. When we do, you will have a clearer mind on what it is you want. Right now, you have too much stress and me being here is adding to that," Kaili placed a kiss on his cheek, "perhaps we will be companions again someday but until then, we will be just friends, "Kaili stood up, "if you ever need anything," she summoned a tassel, "infuse some spiritual energy into this and I will be there."

"I...am sorry Kaili," Xichen said and seemed unfazed by her breaking the bond. He should not be acting that way. He should feel hurt from the loss. It would feel like part of his soul had just gone missing, "perhaps we need some time apart to understand."

Kaili nodded, "it will be alright," she said, "I will not be far."

Kaili bowed and teleported out of the Hanshi. Her new priority was A'Yuan. She wanted to be A'Yuans protector, and she knew that Lan Wangji would let her. She did have on thick robes to keep her warm, and she was now in front of the Jingshi and knocked. Wangji opened and saw a shivering Kaili standing there. He quickly let her inside and sat her down near his fire pit.

"Not that I do not mind, but why are you here?" Wangji asked.

"I have a question to ask of you. I promise to be out of your way but I wish to be A'Yuan's guardian animal. Xichen and I are no longer connected. I am not wanting to leave just yet and I feel that A'Yuan could use a companion," Kaili said, "I promise to protect him as much as possible."

Wangji agreed, "I will allow it," he said.

Kaili summoned a ring in the shape of a snake, "I will merge into this ring. Whenever he needs me, he just needs to ask for me. I will always be with him and he can carry me as he pleases. I will bind with him so he doesn't lost the ring and I can connect with him to know if he is ever in danger," she explained, "plus when you have Wei Wuxian here. I will be out of the way."

(Ring Kaili made for A'Yuan)

Wangji realized that she was doing this because not only did she genuinely want to protect A'Yuan, but she was heart broken by Xichen. Wangji understands completely and wants to help her out but as he sucks at his own love life, how he can help her, he had no clue.

"Alright," Wangji said.

He saw Kaili merge into the ring and now all that was, was Wangji and the little silver ring. Wangji left to see A'Yuan in his room.

"A'Yuan," Wangji said.

"Yes, A'Die?"

"Kaili wanted me to give you this," he placed the ring on his little finger and it shrank down to fit him. The ring will adjust as he grows, "Kaili said that she lives in this ring and whenever you need her, you just need to tell her. Since the ring is on your finger, she has connected to you and she became your spiritual companion."

"Wasn't she uncle's spirit snake?" A'Yuan asked.

"They though you might need her more then he did. You are young and you enjoy her company. No one can ever harm you with her around," Wangji said.

"Okay, thanks A'Die," A'Yuan said.

"Now it's getting late though, you need to start getting ready for bed," Wangji said.

"Okay," he said and stood, "can Kaili sleep by me as a snake?"

Upon cue, Kaili came out of the ring, though it was still on A'Yuan's finger, and she was her snake form, I can sleep beside you if you do as your A'Die says, Kaili said to him.

"She can communicate with me," A'Yuan said happily.

"That is because she is now bonded to you," Wangji said, "she will take care of you as you take care of her. Now get ready for bed and she can stay by you."

"I will," A'Yuan agreed and went to go change into his night robes. He then returned and got into bed beside Kaili, "what do I feed her?"

"She eats what people eat, she needs meat from time to time but let me handle that okay," Wangji said, "if you need anything, I will be in my bedroom."

"Okay, Goodnight A'Die."

"Goodnight A'Yuan," Wangji said.

Wangji blew out the candles and left A'Yuan to go to sleep. Kaili, curled up beside A'Yuan and rested her head on part of A'Yuan's pillow.
