Lan Xichen barely left Kaili's side the moment he got her back. If he was not with her, he made sure she was not alone. Wen Qing, Xie Lian and Hua Cheng, or even Wangji and Wuxian would spend time with her if he was not by her. Since Kaili has been back though, her recovery has been slow and she has been unconscious for ten days. Ten days since she returned to Paradise Manor.

There was still five months until the two married and Xichen had been anxious about it. He was hoping Kaili would be okay but he already knew that she'd suffer from anxiety, post trauma, and paranoia, most likely hallucinations and nightmares too. From all the wounds she had, they didn't know what Jin Guangyao had done to her yet. She has not been awake long enough to tell her story.

At the moment, Xichen was sitting with her. He was sitting on the bed beside her and gently running his fingers through her hair. He would occasionally brush his thumb or other fingers against her forehead or even against her cheek. He was often doing this because he felt he was dreaming. He has her back beside him. She slipped through his fingers twice but never again.

"He is dead," Hua Cheng said entering the room.

Xichen looked at him, "hmm?" He asked as he was brought back from his thoughts and looked at Hua Cheng.

"Jin Guangyao, he is dead...he died not only from blood loss but he was bitten by Kaili. She was the one who tore his arm off...according to one of the witnesses that was there," Hua Cheng said, "his soul will be taken to the most gruesome place in the deepest part of hell. His soul will be tortured for an eternity. Maybe longer, if his soul does not get torn apart first. He will never be reborn again. Included his minions.

"I suppose you never got to know why he took her to Yunping? Even in general?" Xichen asked, "but I am glad he will suffer. I hope he does and more."

"Jin Guangyao was awake long enough to answer questions. Wangji used the truth spell on him. He wanted to collect her venom and use it for experiments. She didn't give in, which is why he tortured her. The more she denied him, the more he'd torture her: even to the point of humiliation. He never put his hands on her inappropriately...meaning he didn't rape her or sexually assault her, but he kept her nude. He has been hiding at Qishan for a while and used his Yin Hu Fu to make those corpses. He went to Yunping because he felt he could get his mother's body and then leave for Dongying. He took her from you because she took you from him. Apparently he had a thing for you," Hua Cheng explained, "apparently she kept taunting him by how amazing your hands were and how your body feels."

Xichen hid a smirk at that last sentence, "only she could provoke him to that extent. Did he just expect me to turn to him if he tried to kill her?" Xichen asked.

"He couldn't kill her. Only gods and other celestial beings and creatures can kill her. Cultivators can torture her all they want but they won't succeed in killing because their weapons are not specifically made for killing gods," Hua Cheng said.

"If you are trying to help me feel better, it is not helping?" Xichen questioned.

"I know, I apologize. I am not the comforting type of person. Xie Lian is that person," Hua Cheng said, "she is a strong woman though. She has been burned, whipped, stabbed, beaten, humiliated, and tortured in many ways and she is still alive. She will probably be dealing with post trauma for a while but she will recover with time. She just needs her family and friends around her...she specifically needs you."

Xichen nodded, "I will be there for her...but with the wedding coming up in five months, we need to be separated for the last two months. Will she be okay with you and Xie Lian without me by her?"

"We won't know until we get there," Hua Cheng said, "but aside from me coming to tell you that Jin Guangyao is dead, Wen Qing has her next medical bath ready. She is waiting for her."

Xichen nodded and stood up before he carefully picked up Kaili and took her to Wen Qing. Wen Qing and the other female healers were able to move her around and help her in the bath. While Kaili was in the bath, she actually woke up from being unconscious for the past ten days. The medical bath was thankfully not irritating her skin but soothing it.

"Hey, glad to see you awake," Wen Qing said calmly. Kaili was slightly panicking as she was slightly hallucinating. Thinking she was still being held hostage by Jin Guangyao, "Hey, try to calm down," Wen Qing said, "he is dead, he cannot hurt you ever again."

Hearing the word dead Kaili calmed down for a moment. It was only long enough for her to get out of the medical bath, and dress. She started to cry as she was pretty shaken up yet. Wen Qing just barely finished wrapping her wounds in bandages and getting her dressed by the time she bolted out of the door. Kaili didn't want to let anyone touch her.

Xichen was in his and Kaili's room when he heard a commotion just out in the hallway. He stepped out and saw Kaili standing there. She looked distraught, panicked, and she was shaking in fear. Xichen realized that she didn't know where she was. She wasn't too familiar with Wen Qing or the other women with her so she was probably terrified. The look in Kaili's eyes showed that she might be going through an episode of post trauma.

"Kaili," Xichen said calmly as he slowly approached her, "hey sweetheart, it's me."

Kaili heard Xichen's voice and looked at him, "Lan Huan?" She said looking at him. Wen Qing tried to approach her with a needle to sedate her to calm her down but it only made Kaili panic more, "no needles! He will take me again!"

"Hey," Xichen said calmly having her look back at him, "he is no longer alive. He is gone."

"Get the needle away!" Kaili yelled as she was backed into a corner and fell to her knees and balled up, "no needles!"

Xichen had Wen Qing back off so it was just him and Kaili, once she was gone, he spoke to her again, "Kaili, can you shift to your snake? You can wrap around me and I will not let you out of my sight."

Kaili looked at him, "I will not give you my venom," she told him.

"It's alright, I do not need it," Xichen said, "look at me sweetie, huh?"

Kaili looked up at Xichen and saw he was right in front of her. Kaili started to cry and threw her arms around him, "do not leave me alone," she sobbed, "please."

"I am here," Xichen said calmly as he hugged her close. She was shaking hard in his arms. He had never expected to to see her in such a state but with what she went through, it was understandable, "you are safe now, you are alive, you are here in my arms again. That man is dead and he can never hurt you again."

Kaili nodded, "can you take me out of the hallway? I don't want to be out in the open," she said.

Xichen lifted her up carefully and carried her into her room. He sat on the bed and held her on his lap. The medical baths that she has been having daily have been helping her heal. Now that she is awake, she can meditate and it will help her heal more. At the moment, she refused to pry herself from Xichen. She missed his warmth and his arms, his comfort and his love. She had him back and she now has to get through her nightmares. She was thankful to have him with her.
