~*Lan Xichen's POV*~
I did not like this separation all that much. I think it is just because of recent events that I worry for Kaili more than I have ever worried before. As the wedding was approaching though, I understood the separation. Shufu, Wangji, and A'Xian came to sit with me in the Hanshi to talk for a bit. Shufu has been a little out of the loop since Kaili has been found after her abduction.
"How has she been?" Shufu asked.
"Last I saw her she was doing okay," I answered, "A'Xian and Wangji saw her most recently."
"I saw her about three days ago. Wei Ying has been stopping in to see Hua Cheng and he has seen her and has been working on her dizi practice," Wangji said, "When I saw her she was doing better."
As there was only two weeks left, the two have seen her more but now they have been back helping out here. I looked at Wuxian.
"I was going to help her work with her Dizi but that is on hold. She does well on her own but when I saw her, Xie Lian was teacher her the Guzheng," Wuxian said.
"Guzheng, really?" I asked, "those are more commonly played by women but men are known to play them. I feel like it would suit her."
"She is doing well. Her practice was cut a bit short as I left. She was to go to the Heavenly Palace for her wedding celebration. She went with Xie Lian and Hua Cheng. I stopped in when they got back and she was a little buzzed," Wuxian said, "she is someone who never drinks but apparently the wine in the Heavenly Palace is quite strong. She shifted to her snake form shortly after returning and started chasing Hua Cheng around Paradise Manor for a while. It was kind of funny."
I couldn't help but chuckle as I imagined her in her snake form chasing Hua Cheng around. I imagined her trying to tease him by trying to bite him and play around. It let me know that she as feeling a bit better. Even though she was a bit drunk, I felt that she was recovering well.
"At least she is feeling better," Shufu said, "I imagine being around crowds is a bit difficult."
"She is, Wen Qing said she has her on mood stabilizers at the moment. It helps but it makes her tired," Wuxian said, "I have been going to see her more then Lan Zhan as he has been helping out a lot here. Plus she missed the kids so I took A'Yuan and Jingyi to see her and she does okay with them. Wen Qing isn't sure how long she will be on mood stabilizers but it helps. She also has her starting contraception...if you can understand why that is."
"She and I spoke of that. We will have children someday but especially right now, we are not ready. We do plan on consummating," I said.
"Of course you are," Shufu said with a smug look on his face.
"When are you and A'Xian getting married?" I asked Wangji.
"Four months from now. The oracle said that was our auspicious time," Wangji answered.
"That is good to hear," I said.
"How have you been?" Shufu asked.
"I am doing okay," I answered, "I miss her and I worry about her but I know she is safe with Hua Cheng and Xie Lian. I just worry as every time we are separated, something happens to her. It is just hard to know what will happen."
"Well, as a Lan it is a curse and a blessing to only love one person in your lifetime," Shufu said, "your father is an example of that."
I nodded, "we are more like him then we realize, aren't we?"
"More Wangji than you, but yes, you are," Shufu says, "Wangji is stubborn like his father while you are more soft tempered and patient like your mother. You do have your stubborn side, but that is when it comes to your love life."
I nodded then looked at Wuxian, "A'Xian are you okay?"
He shook his head, "I am fine."
"Have you ever asked about your parents?" I asked him.
"I have once but Uncle Jiang said it's best to not bother with it. The only thing I know is people are always comparing me to my mother," Wuxian said.
"You are too much like her," Shufu said, "you have the moral compass both your parents had and the determination your father had, but your mother was someone who never liked to conform. She even had an opportunity to study her back then. She and I did not get along well. I got her into trouble once and as revenge she shaved my beard off."
Wuxian, Wangji, and I tried our best not to laugh at the potential visual that was giving us. I have heard Shufu complain in the past during Wei Wuxian's first time here for studies, and all he could say was he was just as unruly and undisciplined as his mother. He wished Wuxian was like his father sometimes as he had a serious complex within his character. Unfortunately, Wuxian got his mother's personality.
He got his sense of morality and justice from both of them. They were both people who believed in not everything being either all black, or all white. They believed there can always be a middle ground; a gray. They believed in equality and justice and aided the weak. They didn't stay within the sects because they wanted to live their own way.
In the end it probably got them killed but they died doing something they believed in. They left an amazing son behind but now that Wei Wuxian was apart of the Gusu Lan Family, his abilities will now forever be valued. Especially now that he is a god.
