Six years later...
Music plays lightly in the background as scents of freshly baked gingerbread fill the air.
A smile has my jaws are aching but I would never trade it for anything else. I squat down and open the tote of decorations full of things for the large tree that stands in front of the living room windows ready to be decorated in beautiful glitter and shiny ornaments.
"Can I help?" Chrisopher falls to his knees beside me.
"You sure can." I rub his back. "Who else is able to place the glitter reindeer on the tree?" I smirk as his excitement grows and we begin decorating the tree.
Even though he is only six years old, Chrisopher has a very good artistic eye for things. He loves to color, draw, or paint. Then three years ago he fell in love with these red glittered reindeer ornaments that we saw while walking by a store, since then Chrisopher wants them on the tree a specific way that resembles them running through the air. Last year alone Chrisopher made the reindeer look as it was pulling Santa's sleigh with the ornament found at the store for the Santa and sleigh.
"Wow this is looking beautiful." Natalie's voice has me turning to mirror her smile.
I walk over after placing the ornament. My arm goes around her waist as we watch Chrisopher continue to decorate the tree since he has already placed the reindeer and Santa with sleigh.
"Would you like to put on the tree topper?" I rest my chin on her shoulder as I bend slightly.
"I would love too." She leans into my embrace a second longer before stepping away from me.
"Where are you going?" I raise an eyebrow with her steps going towards the closet.
"To get the ladder." Natalie pauses and looks back at me.
I pick up the star and walk over to where she has moved next to the tree. Natalie takes the star from my hands and I step around her before bending slightly as my hands go to her hips. With ease, I lift her up into the air and she places the star on top of the tree before I lower her to her feet and hold her in my embrace once again.
The song changes and a bit more upbeat Christmas song comes on and I can't help but spin Natalie in my arms and dance lightly on the side of the tree. Laughter sounds out and Chrisopher begins dancing by himself trying to mimic the moves I do before I dip Natalie backwards and peck a quick kiss to her lips before the next chorus.
Chrisopher claps his hands. "I want to be as good of a dancer as Dad."
"You will be." I chuckle and pat his back. "You have done such great work on the tree, I think a cookie is in order."
Chrisopher's eyes widen. "Gingerbread or sugar cookie?"
"We have both freshly made in the kitchen." I hum lightly. "Which would you choose?"
His face scrunches up in thought before his smile returns. "Sugar cookie."
As he moves to the kitchen swiftly, Natalie lightly tsks me while I pull her into my arms. "Dinner should be first before desserts."
A smirk forms on my lips. "A cookie before dinner isn't going to spoil his appetite."
Natalie laughs ever so lightly. "I guess not, but I did order us some pizza for dinner."
"That sounds nice."
Natalie nods. "Would be a perfect way to end the festive day after all the decorating. Just Christmas movies playing on the television with pizza and cookies until our son is asleep then." She smirks and pauses.
"Then?" I raise an eyebrow while my smirk grows.
"We can have our time in bed."
I hum and kiss her lips before pulling back. "Sounds like perfection."
Natalie giggles and raises up to my ear. "And I just might be wearing new lingerie."
A light moan spills from my lips at the thought. Every year Natalie buys the new lingerie line that comes out and I love each one.
Just then the doorbell chimes and Natalie goes to check on Chrisopher as I open the door and tip the pizza delivery man. I walk to the kitchen and place the boxes down. I open the medium one to see some wings then the pizza in the largest box.
Natalie and I place food on plates as Chrisopher dashes to the living room to pick out the first movie to watch. As we sit on the couch and eat the food, I smile looking at the love of my life and our son.
My phone pings and I see it is my best friend saying the latest book has an official print date set. Even more joyous news as I have been waiting for the message on the book. Now to take some time off to rest and enjoy the time with my family.
Another message shows Mama asking for us to come over for family dinner in two days and I reply back that we will be there. As for tomorrow we have a family dinner with Natalie's parents and sister. Then in three days with the lighting ceremony in town that we plan to go and enjoy. All the joy and smiles to be had.
I pick up the plates and take them to the kitchen. Clean up is easy and quick as Natalie and I place the plates in the dishwasher. "Need some help?"
"Just making some hot cocoa to go along with the cookies." Natalie smiles and I help her fix up the tray before we walk back to the living room as Chrisopher has gone to change into his pajamas.
Another movie is picked as the first one finished and the multicolor lights around shine from the tree as the sun has set already. Fresh snow falls outside and lands on the window, making me smile once more.
Chrisopher falls asleep and I carry him to bed as Natalie turns his light off once I cover him with his blanket. We close his door almost too and clean up from cocoa and cookies before going to our room.
I kiss Natalie's lips and pull back while cupping her cheeks. "I love you, Angel."
"And I love you, Nicolas." She smiles softly before our lips meet again.
