Rich parties were all so boring especially when most of your shareholders and other investors were around. The media was present capturing every moment and everyone looked elegant and well-behaved.
Miran walked into the hall after a series of photos on the red carpet, but he was here alone walking into the party and everyone appeared to have someone beside them. He wished he had brought Kimimela along but this was work, and she had her job too. Even a friend, Eisa was still on his honeymoon with Aisha, and he wouldn't want to interrupt. Honeymoons were important so he learnt.
He took a glass of champagne from the waiter who was passing by. Mr and Mrs Donna of Donna's bottling company had so many people around them, and business partners too. Of course, investors and relatives were here at this kind of party.
He faked a smile when he spotted Mrs Donna walking towards him, with a smile so bright.
"It's really lovely to have you, Mr Mayer," an elderly woman said, smiling at him with the glass of champagne she had, her eyes glittering in happiness.
"Thank you so much, Mrs Donna, it's an honour to be here" he replied, even though he wanted to go home and wrap his arms around Kim, and kiss her as he missed her. He glanced around the fancy party avoiding her eye contact.
"Have you met my daughter, Penelope? She's a graduate of Harvard and-" Miran stood staring at her, head to toe... She had a small smile on her thick red lipstick, and her red gown clung to her skin exposing her curvy shape.
Penelope Donna the CEO of Donna bottling company, and a shareholder of M.M wineries which he had just purchased.
"Your daughter?" Miran asked, the blond lady beside her, her smile warm and her hands held between her politely, waiting to be introduced and shaken.
"Yes, she came to Mexico for business," she replied, Miran took a sip from the champagne glass.
Of course, she came for business, she was one of the shareholders of his new winery, "Of course, Miss Donna, it's a pleasure to meet you,"
"Thank you, Mr Mayer, it's also lovely seeing you here, I hope you're having a good time?" She asked, her voice soft with melodies.
"Oh my! You've met?" Mrs Donna asked,
"Oh, business partners," he said, glancing around for Tony who had promised to get him out of here.
"If you excuse me, I'd leave you two to talk," Mrs Donna said, walking towards her husband who stood alone at the centre of the party.
Miran cupped his hands around the cold glass, staring around but his eyes shifted to meet Penelope when she began speaking.
"Are you new in Mexico?" She asked but continued without hesitation, "I can show you around Mexico, perhaps in your free time, I know some really nice eatery and I hope I can-" she paused, staring at him furiously glaring at his phone.
Kim's message had popped up,
Kimimela; I'm going to Queen's Club,
Miran's jaw clenched, and he held his champagne in his left, typing back to her, Queen's club? He chuckled bitterly.
Miran; Queen's Club? I thought you had an appointment with your designer.
Kimimela; I do, but we have this work thing and it's compulsory.
Miran; Work in Queen's Club?
Kimimela; We are sending off Mrs Willy,
Miran: In Queen's Club, Kim?
Kimimela: Yes
Miran: we would take about this later, maybe when I get back.
Kimimela: It's tonight
Miran: it's dangerous, Kimimela not now.
Kimimela: Every nurse and doctor would be there, Ava, Sandra and me
Miran: And Mr Williams?
He watched her type while he waited for her reply, hoping he was wrong.
Kimimela: Well he said it was compulsory, Miran this is my work, and I need to be there.
Miran: No nurse works in Queen's Club, especially at night!
"I am sorry, Mr Mayer. Am I interrupting?" Penelope asked, Miran lifted his gaze to her and shook his head.
"You were saying?" He turned off his phone, listening.
"I was wondering if-" He took out his phone again, hoping it was Kim's message but it wasn't.
Eisa: When would you come for your suit fitting? You shouldn't leave us in Dubai alone.
Penelope cleared her throat, and he pushed his phone into his pocket again.
"Sorry about that, it's work" he replied, taking a sip from his champagne, "What were you saying?"
"To show you around Mexico," she spat and smiled having accomplished her conversation.
"Oh, Mexico," he said under his breath.
"Yeah, if you're free, we could have dinner perhaps?"
Miran felt a hand tap him before he would reply, it was Tony and his facial expressions told him things weren't going as planned.
"Miss Cortes disappeared," he whispered, Miran let out a deep growl, jaw clenched and hands cupping the glass tight. "We can't find her and she left the hospital, her phone is with Lima,"
"And Ava?" He asked, Tony looked at him.
"Excuse me, Sir," he said, stepping back to get information on her. He came back, "Seems she took hers,"
"Then track hers instead," he said, handing him his glass, "Pack up, we are leaving for California right now," he said and paused Penelope stood watching and listening to them.
She was a rare type, some girls would have given up and walked out after the first attempt but she stood there patiently.
"Is something the problem?" Penelope asked,
"I'm sorry, Miss Donna,"
"Penelope, you can call me Penelope," she said softly, smiling at him.
"Miss Donna," he called and her smile disappeared, "I'm sorry, but I have to leave and about dinner... I don't think that would be possible," he said, and sadness covered her face, embarrassment washed through her. "If you excuse me," he turned and followed Tony out of the hall.
As he walked towards the black car, he buttoned up, "We have their location, Sir..."
Miran got in, and Tony followed sitting in the front seat, "Where? Queen's club?" He asked
"No, Sir, Mart Mall," He said, "Lima is on her way," Miran chuckled,
"No, don't worry, we should head for Queen's Club that's where they are going," he replied.
As the car started his phone began to ring, Miran took it out and stared at the unknown caller.
"Mr Mayer? Sorry to interrupt, but Fatima has been calling your office in California," Tony said, Miran looked at the unknown caller, and it cut before he could pick up.
"My office? Where is she?" He asked, staring at his phone, a message popped in and he opened the image, his brows deepened, and a message popped in
Fatima: Your little butterfly princess...
