Sirens POV
I woke up hearing the front door close. I hate being a light sleeper. I got up and dragged my ass down the hall to use the bathroom. My eyes are barely open and half my body is asleep. I looked over in the doorway and saw Emma and Clay. They froze seeing me. I sighed. "Do I want to know what you two were doing?" I asked. "I know I do" Carter said. We all looked over at her. Carter held out her hand. Emma and Clay looked down in defeat. They both walked to her and put an imaginary bullet in her hand. "Thank you" she said, going back to her room. "What are you guys doing?" I asked turning back to them. Clay looked at Emma and she looked at me nervously. "You're trying to help me aren't you" I said. She looked to the side to escape my gaze. "Emma, I told you not too" I said. "I know, but I figured something out!" She said. "You did?" Clay and I asked. "Yeah. Clay and I learned about another songbird that was on this island. I figured out how he managed his powers as we were walking back" she said. "How?" I asked. "That's just it. He didn't. He wasnt trying. Siren, if you want to use your powers, you have to stop trying to control them" she said. My eyebrows shot up. "We'll see. Thanks guys" I said. They smiled at me. "Goodnight Siren" they said. "Night guys" I said.

Stop trying? How can I stop trying when its all I think about! What else am I supposed to think about? "Hey Siren" Courtney said. I looked over. We're in the kitchen. "Hi" I said. She put some bread in the toaster. "This training is a lot harder than I thought it'd be" she said. "Yeah. Now I'm wishing I didn't skip gym in middle school" I said. She giggled. "Stephanie was talking about the supers extra test. Is it hard?" She asked. "I don't know. We haven't seen it yet. Carter said its small. She said that we all have a test for our specific abilities." I said. "Oh ok. You think you're gonna do good?" She asked. "Nope" I said. "Why not?" She asked. "I cant sing" I shrugged. She threw her head back laughing. "Yes you can!" She said. "No I cant. I cant control it" I said. "Well not if you're thinking like that. If you think you cant control it, then you definitely wont" she said. The toast popped out of the toaster. She put it on a plate. "I'm sure you'll do great Siren. Just shake off the nerves. No one does what you do better than you" she said. She walked off. "Is she gonna eat that with nothing on it?" I mumbled to myself. "I heard that!" She yelled.

We're back at the course. "Siren, its your day for the surprise phase. If you get hit by paintballs, and it gets to the point where you cant take the pain anymore, yell out and Ill stop it ok?" Carter said. I nodded. I walked to the start of the surprise course. "Go!" Carter yelled. A target popped up and I shot it immediately. I'm actually terrified of getting shot by a paintball. I made my way across the course, shooting the targets that popped up. I heard a target pop up but couldn't see it. "Oh no" I whispered. I looked over and shrieked seeing the paintball coming towards me and it stopped mid-air. I stared at it confused as I continued to make the high pitched tune. More paintballs shot and stopped when they got near me. I started to run out of breath. I stopped squealing and the paintballs fell to the ground. I shot the target now that I can see it. That was the last one, so I finished. The team walked to me. "Well, you didn't get shot but you took forever so you'll have to do it again later" Carter said. "Were you in control just then?" Clay asked. I shrugged. "I have no idea" I said. "Its a start. Id say you did great" Emma said. I smiled. "I guess so" I shrugged.

Emma's POV
I knew I could help, even if Siren didn't want or need my help. Carter came into my room. "Thanks for knocking?" I said, confused. "Shut up" she said simply. She sat down in front of me on my bed. "I've been thinking about what you did for Siren. You're a good friend Emma. I'm proud of you" she said. I smiled. "Thank you. Is that all you came in for?" I asked. She smiled. "No." She said. She moved beside me and put her arm around my shoulder. "What are you doing?" I asked. "I told you we'd see what happens. You were a miracle worker this week. I figured you deserve something to happen" she said. "I have to earn your affection?" I asked. "Ew. You make me sound like an awful person when you say it like that" she said. I laughed. "You're not. Although, that is basically what you just told me" I said. "No. You don't have to earn my affection. You get it more than you realize actually. I don't know if you've noticed, but I'm not exactly the most emotional person" she said. I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, I noticed" I said with a laugh. She rolled her eyes. "But when you do stuff like you did this week, I cant help but actually show my affection" she said. "So... I turned you on?" I asked. She froze. "I didn't say that" she said. "Right... so if I put my hand on your thigh-" she cut me off as I lifted my hand. "Don't you even think about it tween" she said swiftly. She shot me a death glare and I put my hand back where it was. "How can you be scary and attractive at the same time?" I asked. "I'm glad to see you're speaking your mind now." She said with a laugh. I rested my head on her shoulder. I don't know exactly what this is, but it's working for me.
