Emma's POV
"Emma we need more bullets" Clay said. "And the training course is broken again" Siren said. "And we have to redo the the schedule now that there are two less of us" Courtney said. "I know! I know. I'm working on it. On all of it. You guys are giving me too much to handle all at once. I don't know what to do!" I said. "Guys! There's a problem in the marketplace!" Noah said running in. "Of course there is" I groaned. There's some asshole doing donuts on a motorcycle in the center of the marketplace. I shot his tire and and his bike spiraled out of control. He got swung off of it and landed at my feet. I grabbed the back of his shirt and lifted him up. "No vehicles outside of Drivers Gully. This is your warning. Next time, you'll see the castles dungeon. Understand?" I snapped. He nodded quickly. "Good" I dropped him. "Now bring that bike back to Drivers Gully and leave it" I said. I started walking back home.
"Emma" Clay said running up next to me. "I KNOW WE NEED BULLETS!" I yelled. "I was gonna ask if you're ok" he said. I took a deep breath. "I'm fine. I'm just... overworked at the moment" I said. "Then get help. Carter always had Tony as her lackey. You need one too" he said. "I'm assuming you're volunteering?" I asked. "Well duh" he said. "Fine. You can be my lackey. So stop complaining about bullets and go find them yourself!" I yelled. "I don't know where to get those" he said. "In the night market." I said. "The night market?! That place is creepy" he whined. "Then bring someone with you. My biggest concern right now is fixing our schedule now that Carter and Tony are gone. Just go and figure it out" I said. "Yes ma'am" he said.
I'm at the kitchen counter trying to figure this out. Siren pulled a water out of the fridge and then stood there like an idiot. I took a deep breath and looked up at her. "Fix it yourself. I'm busy" I said. "How?" She asked. "Ask your girlfriend for help. She's the one that broke it" I said. "Ok" she said and quickly walked away. "Hey Emma?" Stephanie asked. "Can I be left alone for five seconds?!" I yelled. I dropped my head on the counter and groaned. I heard a mist sound and looked up. It smells weird. "What are you doing?" I asked. "Its supposed to calming. I'm still working on it. I was gonna ask how you're doing with Carter gone" she said. I sighed. "I didn't realize how much she actually did." I said. "Well... she didn't" she says. "What?" I asked. "She did do a lot, but nothing we didn't see. And most of the time she had us fix our own mistakes like you just did with Siren and Joey. But Carter never used these schedules or anything. She just winged it most of the time. Just relax Emma. You're doing great" Stephanie said. I took a deep breath. "Thanks Stephanie. But Courtney was nagging me about it" I said. "Oh! She means her schedule. She wants to know whos covering her lookout duty while she's on the welcome committee" she said. "Oh... why don't you do it?" I asked. "We talk the whole time and then neither of us do any work" she said. "Oh. Uh... Ill have Noah do it" I said. "Do you want me to tell him?" She asked. "Please. And thanks" I said. "No problem." She said.
Noah's POV
"Yeah I can do that" I said. "Awesome. See ya later" Stephanie said. "Bye" I said. I'm already patrolling the marketplace most of the time. Oliver does Drivers Gully. He's the one that alerted me about the lose driver. Stephanie usually does Glacier Garden but that place doesn't need much security. Joey looks after Athletes Overlook, and Siren watches the beaches. Clay is technically assigned to the housing units but nothing happens there so he doesn't really do much. He's usually doing something with Emma. We all switch but those are our main zones. Emma's been having a lot of trouble since Tony and Carter left. She's been angrier and more anxious. We've been trying to help her as much as possible but we haven't been much help. The last thing we need right now is a problem, or worse, another defection. Good thing the rest of us aren't going anywhere any time soon. I looked out on the marketplace. I'm glad nothings going on, but at the same time, I'm bored. I looked around for anything and saw something in the distant water. "The fuck is that?" I asked myself. I called Siren. "Hello?" She asked. "Do you see the thing on the water?" I asked. "What thing? Right now I'm helping a mermaid get their tail unstuck from the trading docks" she said. "On the beach near the marketplace. There's something out on the water" I said. "Can you check it out? I'm a little busy. I can send Clay to you" she said. "Yeah. Please do that. Ill go see if I can get a better look" I said hanging up.I ran out to the beach. "I hope it isn't another sea serpent" Clay said walking up beside me. "I cant see it" I said. Clay gave me binoculars. I looked through them. "Its a boat, but its not a teen island boat. This is a new incomer" I said. "Can you see whos on it?" Clay asked. "No. It better not be an adult" I said. "We gotta get them to land on a dock and not the beach. They'll hurt someone" Clay said. "How though?" I asked. "We cant contact them, but we can contact the people here. We have to clear the beach" Clay said. "You go that way. Ill get this side" I said.
The boat hit the sand and Clay and I held our guns at the ready. "Whos there?" I yelled. "There's no adults allowed on this island" Clay yelled. "Good thing I'm not an adult" a girl said jumping off the boat. My jaw dropped. "Farrah?!" I shrieked. "Yes Noah. Its me. I've been on this boat for three days because of you!" She yelled. "What?" I said. "Do you know what happened to me after you left? Everyone thought I went bat shit crazy and kidnapped you! I was being interrogated all while I was sobbing my heart out because you left me without saying a word! Then when I found out that Emma and her brother were missing too, I knew something was up so I followed all of Darrel's notes and came here. You have a lot of nerve!" She yelled. "Farrah, let me explain-" I said. "You don't need to. I get it. You found a wonderful new life and decided to just throw your old one away. Well, when you left your old life, the people you cared about suffered!" She yelled. "I'm sorry! It slipped my mind!" I said. "Oh really? Your girlfriend slipped your mind?!" She yelled. Clay looked at me like I was crazy. "That's your girlfriend?" He asked. "Yeah-" she cut me off. "No. You are an asshole! What makes you think Id still be your girlfriend after what you did?! I came here to drag your ass back home so I could stop getting shit!" She yelled. "Farrah, I'm not leaving. This place is the best decision I've ever made. Its my job to protect it and you need to park your boat somewhere else. This is a public beach and that's a safety hazard. Please" I said. "Noah. I'm not leaving without you" she said. "Then don't leave. This place is a miracle. I think you'll like it" I said. She laughed. "You've gone mad! You think I'm gonna stay in this shit hole?" She asked. "Farrah, please. Just give me a chance to explain" I said. She groaned. "You get a day." She said. "I can work with that" I said. She got back in her boat. "What the hell man?" Clay asked. "I'm an idiot. Ill handle it ok?" I said. "You better. Emma doesn't need anything else on her plate" Clay said.
