Emma's POV
"No" I said looking out over Drivers Gully. "Agreed" Clay said. "You guys gotta learn at some point" Oliver said. "Why doesn't Siren?" I asked. Clay looked over at me. "Sirens deathly afraid of driving" he said. "What why?" I asked. "She got in a car accident when she was younger and her dad was holding her in his lap while driving. She said that she screamed so loud that he went deaf in one ear. She feels guilty about it" he said. "Oh" I said. "That's... ok. Anyways, Carter sent me out here to teach you two how to drive because she didn't trust Tony to do it" Oliver said. "By yourself? Why didn't you ask the girls for help?" I asked. "Courtney is doing welcome committee stuff and Stephanie is helping Siren with the third phase on the obstacle course. Also Carter said this would be a good opportunity for us to get to know each other. I think she just wants the lair to herself." He said. "Where's Tony?" Clay asked. He shrugged. "Whos knows? That boy is everywhere" he said. "Cant argue with that" I said. "You guys have nothing to worry about. We're not going to what's called the racers side. We're going to the learners side. The racers side is in front so that's what you see first, but behind it, there's no spinning out of control or crashing into trees. No fatal injuries. You'll be fine" Oliver explained. Clay and I breathed out relieved. I'm guessing we both didn't know there were two sides to Drivers Gully. Oliver walked us along the chain link fence to the other side. It does look much calmer. "Ok, who wants to go first?" Oliver asked. Clay and I pointed at each other. Oliver sighed. "This is gonna be a long day" he said.Courtney's POV
Today I got stuck with my least favorite job. We call it the Name Jockey. I have to get every new comers name so that we can put a name on their bank account. This is where I really need that customer service voice. The kids are all lined up and after they tell me their name, they can go. I noticed an older kid in the middle of the line. Usually, we don't get many older kids. They don't have much time here so we don't usually bring them in. Regardless, I still asked for his name. "Hi, I need your first and last name" I said as politely as possible. "Darrell Dune" he said. "Ok. Thank you. You're gonna go that way" I said pointing. He walked the way I pointed and then stopped. Not my problem. "Hi, I need your first and last name" I said again. This is so annoying. "Noah North" the kid said. "Ok, right this way" I said, pointing. He walked up to Darrell and then they both left. Something about them was weird, and definitely not good.I'm on break. "Tony!" I found him in the marketplace. "Yeah?" He asked. "Are we aloud to run suspicion on people?" I asked. "That's not a thing but yeah you're aloud to be suspicious of people. I'm suspicious of the bastard that runs this place" He said. "Tony, I was the Name Jockey today" I said. He laughed. "That job sucks!" He laughed. "I know! That's not my point though. I met these two guys. One of them looked like he was eighteen. He and his friend were really weird." I said. He was taken back when I estimated the guys age. "Weird how?" He asked. "They told me their names very directly. Usually the newbies are all scared or confused. Not these guys. They knew exactly what they were doing" I said. "You can always keep an eye on them." He shrugged. "But isn't that creepy?" I asked. "Yeah, as a bandit, 'creepy' is kinda ruled out. We stalk people all the time" he shrugged. "What?!" I said. "Yeah, but for legal purposes we just say 'keeping an eye on them.' Its easier that way" he said. "Wow" I said. He shrugged. "If you see them do anything bad, let me or Carter know. We'll help you" he said.
Carters POV
I actually like being alone. Its hard to be alone on an island where you're forced to have roommates. I slept in today and I've already taken like three naps. Taylor warned me that I wouldn't get many breaks. She said that I would have to look after the others because, and I quote, "they are bound to be just as stupid as your group was." And now that I think about it, I should probably go check that my team is still alive. Suddenly I remembered where I sent Emma and Clay today. I shot out of my bed and grabbed my keys. I gotta make sure my girl is still alive. The bandits have their own dirt bikes. We're supposed to use them during emergencies because obviously, we cant drive anywhere but Drivers Gully. Good thing that's where I'm going. I zipped up my jacket, put on my driving gloves, and then my riding goggles. Ok, time to make sure I still have half my team. Personally, I don't trust Clay in a car.
Emma's POV
"This is easier than I thought" Clay said. "Speak for yourself" I said. "Not my fault you're short" he said. I glared at him. He's judging me because I kept messing with the level of the seat. "What?" He asked. I jumped on his back and tackled him to the ground. Oliver is putting the car back. "I'm not short, asshole!" I yelled pressing his face in the dirt. A dirt bike pulled up and caused a dust cloud when it stopped. I waved the dust away. The side of the bike has the bandits logo on it. I looked up at the driver confused. Carter took off her goggles. "Looks like I got here just in time" she said. She walked to us. "Let him go Emma" she said calmly. I let go of Clay and he got up to brush the sand off himself. "What happened?" Carter asked. "He called me short" I said. "She kept messing with the seat leveler thing" he said. "Yeah, because the seatbelt was uncomfortable!" I said. "Ok! Shut up! Where's Oliver?" Carter asked. "Putting the car back" Clay said. "I just came to make sure you guys were alive. Figured you would crash a few times" Carter said looking at Clay. "I didn't. She did" Clay said. Carter looked at me. "I hit cones. I did not crash" I said. Clay shrugged. "Same thing" he said. I groaned. Oliver walked over. "Did I miss something?" He asked. "Yeah. Can you take Clay back to the lair?" Carter asked. "Yeah sure" he said. "Oooooh you're in trouble" Clay said. "There's a bug in your hair" I said, unamused. He panicked and ruffled through his hair. "Stop you look dumb. She's messing with you" Oliver said, dragging him along."Am I actually in trouble?" I asked. "No" Carter shook her head. "I just wanted to make sure you were still alive" she said. "Aw, you were worried about me?" I asked. "I didn't say that" she said. "You didn't not say it" I said. She smiled and rolled her eyes. "I was a little worried" she shrugged. I smiled. "Good to know you care about me" I said. "Oh please, you know I care about you" she smiled. I laughed a little. "Do we all get one of those?" I asked looking at her bike. "We only have five so no. The best drivers get them" she said. "So, Courtney, Oliver, Tony, and Stephanie?" I asked. "Courtney, Oliver, Stephanie, and apparently Clay. Tony cant drive a bike to save his life. You better practice more if you don't want Clay to take your spot" she said. I blinked a few times. "Ill pass" I said. She chuckled. "Come on tween. Ill give you a ride home" she said. She tossed me her goggles. "Don't you need these?" I asked. "Ill just use the sunglasses" She said. "Carter?" I asked. She turned to me. "Thank you for checking up on me" I said. She smiled. "Of course" she said.
