Emma's POV
Carter let me stay in her room last night. Well, technically she dragged me back down after I tried to leave. Now I'm laying in bed with her. I turned to face her. I expected her to be awake as always but she's dead asleep and facing the other way. "Carter?" I whispered. She didn't move or make a sound. I peered over her. "Carter are you ok?" I asked. Her brows furrowed and she crunched into a ball. "Are you awake?" I asked. She nodded but didn't open her eyes. "What's wrong?" I asked. She opened her eyes and looked over at me. "I'm in pain" she gritted through her teeth. My eyebrows went up. "You're cramping, aren't you?" I asked. She nodded. "Do you want me to leave?" I asked. She hesitated. "Yeah. I don't want to snap at you" she said. "Ok. Ill bring you an Advil" I said."There's the woman of the hour. Gettin in good with the boss" Clay said. I looked over at him unamused. "Siren" I said. She walked up to him and smacked him across the face. "Ow! Did you two plan that?" He asked. "No. It was a group effort" I said. "You all grouped up against me?" Clay asked. "Only when you do stupid shit" Courtney said, walking out of the kitchen. "Feel lucky. I wanted to zap you" Stephanie said. Tony walked out. "What are we talking about?" He asked. I threw him the Advil bottle. He caught it and raised an eyebrow at it. "For Carter" I said. Courtney looked at me. "Cramps?" She asked. I nodded. "I love being a super" Siren said. "I bet you do" I snapped. Supers don't get periods because their magic handles menstruation differently. Tony went down the hallway and then came running back out immediately. Carter stomped out here looking pissed. "What's wrong?" I asked. "His royal dip-shit-ness wants to see us" Carter growled. "Oh" I said. "You have ten minutes before I leave you all behind. Go!" Carter yelled. We all bolted to get ready.
We stood in the throne room. "Ok bandits. Now that you're back in business, I have a mission for you" the king said. I really should learn his name. "What's going on sir?" Carter asked. I hope he doesn't say anything to provoke her because she nearly killed Tony on the way here. "As you know, trade is our most important thing here. Well, there's been some sort of sea monster spotted at the trading docks. Usually this isn't a problem, but it seems like this beast is refusing to leave. I need you to push it back into the sea" the king said. "Ok. Do we get a boat?" Carter asked. "If you need one then just tell them I said ok" he said. Carter nodded. "Lets go" she said.
"How are we supposed to catch a sea monster?" I asked Tony. "We don't have to catch it, and we cant hurt it. We just have to lead it back to the ocean" he said. We're at the docks behind the castle. Carter is looking out over the water with binoculars. We're all supposed to be looking but most of us aren't. Carters arm started shaking and Tony and I took a step back. "Ah! Its a fucking Sea Serpent! Its a harmless creature! What the hell!" Carter yelled, frustrated. I looked through the binoculars. Sure as hell, there's a sea serpent. "I guess we need a boat then" I said. "Ill go ask" Courtney said.
We're all on this boat. "You can drive a boat?" I asked, looking at Tony. He looked at me weird. "Of course I can" he said, like that was common knowledge. "There's the sea serpent" Siren said. "What do we do?" Clay asked. "Stephanie, do you think you can create a current to move the serpent with us?" Carter asked. "I don't control water. I control weather" Stephanie said. Carter took a deep breath. "I can give it a try. I'm not really sure all I can do, but I think I can push some water" Siren said. "Good enough" Carter said. "What song do you guys want?" Siren asked. Clay bounced up. "Oh! Do I want it that way" he said. "What is wrong with you?" Siren asked. "It'll be funny!" He said. Siren rolled her eyes and walked to the side of the boat. "Lets see if this'll work" she said. She started singing and sure enough, it worked. As we moved down the current, I walked to Carter. I gently put my hand on her shoulder. "Carter?" I asked. "What" she snapped. I slowly slipped my arms around her and hugged her. She hesitated but hugged back. She breathed out and her body relaxed. "You feel better now?" I asked. "Mhm" she hummed. This isn't gonna last long, but at least I can get her to calm down a little. She pulled away from me. "Thanks" she said, not making eye contact. I smiled and nodded. Carter walked away.
"Was I really wrong this morning though?" Clay asked. I turned around spooked. "Jeez man. Way to creep up on someone" I said. He shrugged. "You know, sea serpents don't like shallow water" he said. "So?" I asked. "So, why would it stay here? Its been confusing me since we got on the boat" he said. I raised an eyebrow. "That is weird" I said. I went to the front of the boat and picked up my binoculars. I looked out on the water. "I don't see any other serpents" I said. Oliver walked up and I handed him the binoculars. "I see one" he said. "You do?" I asked. "Yeah. Its dead. Floating like a whale carcass" he said. My eyes widened. "Wait... if its staying in shallow water that it doesn't like and isn't leaving... something is stopping it from leaving" I said. "No kidding." Oliver said. "You see something?" I asked. "Yeah its eating the carcass. Its a Lusca." He said. "A what?" I asked. "Its basically a shark with a squids ass" he explained. "What do we do?" I asked. "We turn this boat around before we become the next cheesy shark movie" he said, running up to Tony. "What about the serpent?" I asked. "Stephanie! Oliver! Do what you have too to get that lusca distracted. We're getting this serpent out of here no matter what" Carter said. "What?" I shrieked. "We have to finish the mission. I don't want this thing to die either but maybe we can give it a head start" Carter said. I sighed. "Ok. Siren! Faster!" I said. We all jolted around as the boat sped up. We had to grab onto something. Oliver held the lusca with the kelp growing below. We're almost past it. "I cant hold it much longer" Oliver said. "Tony!" Carter yelled. Tony put the boat on full throttle making our hair, his tail, and Clays tail whip in the wind. "Everybody stop!" Carter yelled. We came to a halt, causing a giant wave to come over and soak us all. "We did it." Carter said. "Uh, the lusca isn't happy. How do you suppose we get back?" Oliver asked. "Stephanie, zap away. Lets go home" Carter said. "Yes! I love zapping stuff" Stephanie cheered.
