"Hey." Kai's sudden voice made them all flinch. They had been waiting for him sitting around on the ground. They all stared up, on top at the tree bark he sat on.
"Where were you, Kai?" Mira asked and he smiled at them.
"Away."
"You're late. Twenty-one minutes late." Mira said glaring at him. All of them had been waiting at the training location for today and everyone other than their esteemed master was present.
"I am?" Kai asked and chuckled scratching the back of his head. All of them stared like him for a while.
"Excuse them please, you must have been-" Nina got cut off.
"Busy sir master Kai." Mira mocked, changing her voice to a softer tone to sound more like her. Why did she never sound like this when speaking to Mira?
Kai flashed in front of Mira and smacked her head from the back before going back to his position.
"You're so biased!" Mira groaned. Elias looked at his best friend with a slight smile. She wad right, he was.
"Why are you actually late Kai? Do you have something you want to enlighten us with sir?" Gael asked. It had been a few days since the quake and his back had now healed completely, and the boy was glad it had. Kai's training had not softened up after his injury and to top that he could not rest properly. It would be safe to say that the past few days had not treated Gael nice.
"Since you guys are onto me, I was called in for a teacher meeting of the rogoms with the chiefs." He said and waited a moment to gauge their reactions, as it was neutral, he continued." The rank ascending competitions are going to start within weeks. So, whoever wants to participate can enter if their rogom mentors agree to it."
He looked at each of them again. Nina and Ares seemed pumped, Gael bored and Mira, Elias unsure.
As usual.
"First, I want to say that personally I think only two of you should participate. With that being said, it is a learning experience so if either of you want to go for it, I won't stop you. Remember, one rank up is the rank Gian and the competition will not be easy as a rank higher are ninjas who are a lot more advanced."
"Alright, raise your hands if you wish to participate."
All of them other than Elias and Gael raised their hands.
"I want to ask a question first." Mira justified her raised hand. Kai nodded, as a gesture for her to continue. "Do you really wish to send only two of us? If so... which two?"
"I wish to send none of you as of right now." Kai sighed. "I think the two of you might be ready. Keyword being might, but what do I know."
"Who?" Nina asked this time with a smirk.
"You and Gael." Kai shrugged. Ares frowned at his words. He wondered, why not him?
"Why not me?" Ares asked.
"Do you wish to participate in Ares?"
"Yes."
"Go for it then. What about you Elias?" He asked. Elias still had that unsure look on his face.
Kai walked forward in front of the boy and put his hand on one of his shoulders.
"No one's forcing you, and there's always next year. Whether you go or not will not phase my opinion on you in any way. Sometimes waiting is wiser than going for it. Remember that there is no pressure, so do what you feel like you should." Kai said. Elias gave him a small smile.
"I'll be stepping out then sir. I'd rather not participate this year." He said and Kai nodded with a smile.
"Gael?"
