The next day Kai was wandering around with striking dark circles whilst Mira was jumping here and there, feeling better than ever.
"What's up with you?!" Mira asked as Kai groaned and rubbed his eyes.
Gael, Ares, Elias, Nina and Mira, alongside Kai were all called into the townhouse to meet the chiefs.
"Are you sure you're feeling better M?" Elias asked the girl prancing around.
"Better than ever." Mira said in a sing-song voice as they entered the building.
"Good morning, sirs." Kai greeted as his students followed.
"Kai, how many of your kids are partaking in the competition?" Mira's father asked.
"Three. Ares Lieghen, Gael Dawson and Nina Nagami." Kai said and the chief smirked.
Exactly what he wanted.
"Just as I suspected." He retorted pompously.
"They have not passed yet sir, who knows what the future holds." Kai said which resulted in him earning a glare.
"Are you suggesting my daughter is incapable?" He asked and Kai shook his head.
"No no, I think both your daughters are very capable. But my own personal thoughts won't change or better their chances at increasing ranks, now will it sir?" Kai said with a slight polite smile.
Mira gulped and followed it up with a frown. Why was he speaking with her father? What if he takes it out on her later? Or worse, on him?
She felt him look at her, so she looked back.
And there he was with a laid-back smile that practically shouted out to her, it's going to be alright.
"Anyway, Kai, we are handing out a mission to you." Chief G said. "I know you have specially requested a few days off to prepare your students, more so as the competition is near, but it is a vital mission. A rogom and three other hugos have lost their lives."
Kai furrowed his eyebrows.
"It's a two-day trip, we'll send over a telegram to your house with all the details. Only you can take care of it. I am sure you can find someone to replace you." Chief H said.
"And since you are so confident that both of my daughters are so capable, why don't you take Mirabelle with you?" Chief B spoke up with arrogance which Kai reacted to by fisting his wrists.
"No. Absolutely not." He objected.
"It is an order." Chief B said.
"We have not discussed this chief." Chief G spoke up with displeasure, noticing Kai's change in mood.
"Geez Gio, I thought you would be a bit more confident in Kai, as I am on my daughter."
Mira squeezed her eyes shut and physically cringed when her father called out to her.
"Sending your mito child into a battlefield is not being confident, it's called being a-" He looked at the kids staring at him and cleared his throat, "-noodle brained schmuck."
"Yes but Kai Zaveri is going with her, I would send my kid off of a bridge if Kai was there." Chief A said in thought.
"I apologize sir, but I am not taking that girl with me." Kai said with slightly narrowed eyes.
"So, are you openly defying a chie-"
"I'll go." Mira quickly said before her dad could take more shots at Kai.
"Don't." Kai warned.
"I am fully okay with going." Mira ignored him and firmly nodded.
"Alright, it's decided then." Her dad said. "Dismissed."
