"Guys stop! I said I was sorry." Gael groaned as his friends kept continuously hitting him.
They had left for the competition arena, not really wanting to watch more of anything. Now they were standing in front of Gael's house in an empty looking Ahana.
"Why did you quit?!" Mira asked, annoyed. He was winning. He was so close.
"For no reason." He rolled his eyes. Elias then went up to him.
"There's no way it's for no reason. Tell us?!" He asked anxiously. Was he getting blackmailed? Was someone threatening him?
"Look man, I've always known to rely on you no matter what the situation is without asking questions. But what was so important that you did not want to be promoted anymore?!" Ares asked, agitated.
"I-" Gael looked down embarrassed.
Everyone watched him as he shut up.
"Just say it?! Is anyone hurting you? We can ask Kai for help, we're here for you, don't worry." Elias said.
"WHO'S HURTING HIM?" Ares asked protectively.
"IS ANYONE HURTING YOU?!" Mira asked out as Gael groaned in frustration.
"NO! I DON'T WANT TO GET PROMOTED. THEN I WON'T-" He looked at their shocked faces and blushed. "I won't get to come to practice with you guys anymore. Or have Kai as my teacher anymore. That sucks!"
All of them stared at the grump softie with a mix of shock and awe.
"That's why I quit. I didn't want things to change. I saw the way you were the past few days Mira and I wanted to make you proud. I wanted to be the winner but I couldn't. I can't leave, I wanna stay with you guys." Gael said as all of them embraced him at once.
"Good thing you quit then huh?" They heard Kai's voice which caused them to break apart.
"I would like to teach you guys for a while more too." Kai smiled a little as the boys laughed slightly.
Mira smiled a little at him, the gesture which he returned.
"Your mom's not too happy though." Kai warned Gael and he groaned. Shit, he was going to get it.
The next few days were living hell for Gael.
Well Kai made it a point to drive home that he was still his student, so he had to train extra hard now that he has lost.
Same went for Nina and Ares. Nina had taken longer to recover from her injuries, also taken the most brunt from Kai for being this careless to prove a point.
Kai had also worked on more group exercises as he had noticed how Nina was not in unison with the rest.
Now all he had to do was wait for Mira to get her powers. Once that happens, they can all work together and start coordinating their magic. No stopping them after that, Kai was sure of it.
Within days the Luminum Ceremony was here. They had all dressed up in neutral clothes and decided to attend it together.
It was known that Kai was not getting a new batch of students in years, there were a few whispers about it but he was not batting an eye. He was more concerned about the girl who had been relentlessly ignoring him despite training together.
Another thing that he had struggled to come in terms with is that he was always nervous around her now.
The other day, he practiced for about eight minutes, just talking to himself in front of his mirror to know exactly what to say to her. Then he got caught by his master, which made him stop doing that.
