"Grandma! When are we leaving?" I yelled down the stairs.
"In a few minutes! Come down here I have something to show you!" She yelled back.
I started heading down the stairs and found her waiting with a big box all wrapped.
"What is this grandma?" I asked looking at the box.
"Happy Birthday Bethy!" She said handing me the box.
I know. Bethy. Completely unnecessary, but I let her say it because it makes her happy. I have been with grandma got 2 months and it's the happiest I have felt in a long time.
"Thanks Grandma, but you didn't have to do this." I say.
"Oh course I did. I missed 11 birthdays and a birth. You deserve this. Happy 13th Birthday dear." She kisses me and waits for me to open then box.
"Wait! Happy Birthday to you too grandma!"
"Oh Merlin. It is my birthday. Happy Birthday to me! I'll make a cake to celebrate tonight! You can even invite that fellow, what's his name again?" She says smiling.
"Oh Grandma. If you are talking about Oliver no, he is not coming over. I'm meeting him today in Diagon Alley." I pause and think for a bit. Oliver and I have been talking constantly for the past 2 months and it's great don't get me wrong, but something doesn't feel right. I shake the thoughts out of my head and ask, "May I open this?"
"That's what we are waiting on! Yes!" She says waving her hands in the air.
I tear open the gift and see something I never thought would be a present for my birthday.
"Uhm. Grandma. Not that it isn't lovely, but why did you get me a bra for my birthday? You know I have plenty right?" I say.
I mean. Yeah my chest has grown... A lot I may add... In the past few months, but really? A birthday gift? How mortifying.
"Well. I saw it the other day at the clothing shop you go to all the time, and thought it was your size and just got it for you. Anyway that isn't your actual gift. I'm just teasing. Here," she pulls something out of the closet, "is your gift."
I know immediately what it is when I see it. It's long and slim. A broomstick. I open it up to see the latest model there is. A nimbus 2000.
"GRANDMA! You cannot be serious! This is too much!" I yell at her. Again, don't get me wrong I LOVE it. But she shouldn't have spent that much on me.
"Oh please, just accept it. You are my only grandchild. It is in the grandmothers handbook to spoil you." She says smiling at me. "Anyway. We must be off. We need to get you new robes and books! You mother also sent along 50 gallons for you to spend on whatever you please. She also says Happy Birthday and sorry she can't make it."
I grab the small bag full of golden coins. How did she get all of this? I know her job pays well but, not this well. I give it another thought and make a mental note to write her a thank you.
"Alright. Have you traveled by Floo Network?" She turns to me and asks.
"Nope." I simply reply.
"Alright, well just watch and do the same thing. I'll be waiting." she hops into the fireplace that somehow seams bigger than normal and grabs a handful of dust and yells. "DIAGON ALLEY." A burst of green flames appear and she's gone.
"Uhm. Okay. That was weird." I say walking to the pot of dust and examining it. I read about Floo Powder and this must be it. I grab a handful and walk into the fireplace. It's really roomy in here. I yell "Diagon Alley" but nothing happens. I think. What else did she do? Then it pops into my head she threw the dust onto the ground. I position myself again and repeat the steps again. Only this time I throw the powder on the ground and I'm whizzing through what looks like tunnels and I open my eyes and see grandma.
"About time. I've been waiting ages! now let's go." She says walking off.

A few hours later we have all my things gathered and she waves her wand and they are sent to her house.
"I'm going to meet with Darla. See you in an hour maybe two." She says walking off to the Leaky Cauldron.
With another 30 minutes to spare before I meet with Oliver. I decide to hit up my favorite place. Flourish and Blotts. I head over to a random aisle and look for an interesting book. That's when everything goes wrong. I climb up a ladder and grab The Tales of Beedle the Bard. When I grab the book and start descending the ladder I slip on one of the rails and start falling. I prepare myself to hit the ground, but it never happens. I look up and see someone I know all too well.
"You should really be more careful-" he pauses for a moment and looks at me. "Beth?"
"Oh. Thanks Fred. Bye!" I say wiggling out of his arms and walking down the aisle. But he interrupts.
"Wait Beth! What did you do with your hair?" Says Fred.
Now I'm angry . No I'm enraged. I wrote him about my hair changing colors about 30 times! My hair is now black and straight, my curls dissappeared this summer along with my blonde color. I decide to be snotty to Fred know he hasn't been reading my letters.
"Well Fred if you could read you would know." I yell at him. I continue walking and out of nowhere he says,
"Happy Birthday." I smile. I like this Fred. Kind, sweet and the one who remembers things. Maybe deep down he is still the Fred I know. Granted it's deep down there, but still there. "Thanks. I really need to go Fred. Oliver is waiting for me." And I walk away before he can say anything else. I start to tear up when I'm paying for my book, but then I remember what George told me last time her wrote me.
"He really misses you. I know it. Jut give him time. He's coping with the whole thing. I promise he will be himself again soon."
Yeah right. It's been two months and he's still a arse.
I walk outside and witness something that's even more upsetting. Oliver is talking to a different girl. Oh wait, did I say talking? I mean snogging. I don't even give it another thought and run up to him and say,
"Hey Oliver!"
He backs away from the girl and tries talking to me but I just walk away. I'm too upset with this whole thing. I shouldn't have been so stupid. I should have listened to Fred. He was right about Oliver.
