I tied the arm sleeves around my waste wiping off the sweat before it got into my eyes. Being a maniac kinda sucked in hair weather since I was always outside, but the thin over alls were nice and light.
Cutting my hair into bangs wasn't a good idea. Yes they were cute but when it can to sweating they stuck to my forehead and poked my eyes.
"Oh shit!"
I looked behind me to see Yuki had bumped into a dirt bike and it had went rolling down a hill. I walked over to him, hands on my hips and we just stared at the bike that landed a few yards away from the fence.
"Are you just gonna stand here or go get it?" I teased Yuki for being so clumsy
"I put in there so I wouldn't hit it, and then I hit it!" He threw his arms up slowly making his way down the hill not wanting to slip and fall
"Do you need help?"
"No it's okay, let's just hurry and finish so we can call it a day"
I shrugged my shoulders not complaining and walking back to the side by side I was fixing. A few days ago some people went out and got stuck in some mud.
Not knowing how to get out, they kept hitting the gas which caused one engine to blow. The other they put rocks and sticks in-front of the tires so they would have a surface to drive out off but, with it being muddy, the sticks moved and the tires kicked it under the side by side.
So now there were sticks poking out the bottom. I was currently on leaning over the hood trying to loosen up a bolt when Yuki called my name. I knew he needed my help.
"Coming!"
I laid down the wrench on the table and wiped off my greasy hands with a rag. Walking over to the hill, I walked down slowly to the bike still on the ground.
"Yuki" I called out looking for five foot tall boy. I picked up the heavy bike, kicking out the stand for it to lean on. The front tire was missing. Just then my name was called again.
Looking over to my right I notice Yuki. Shaking my head at how dumb he was to go over the fence. I looked a little passed him to see the wheel to the bike.
Walking over to the fence, I stopped "bro you can't go over there. Come back it's just a wheel"
"I'm stuck"
I groaned out loud. He wasn't far from the fence. If anything, we could quickly run back. I hopped over the wooden fence and jogged over to Yuki who was behind a rock.
"Bro, I asked if you n- Yuki!"
I ran over to the boy who was laying down on the rock. Eyes closed, blood coming from the top of his head. I shook him trying to wake him up.
"Yuki wake up" I whispered not wanting to draw any attention. I kept shaking him in hopes he would wake up. I moved his hair out of the way to see a big gash on his forehead.
"Help I'm stuck"
I froze at those words. I mentally cursed at myself for being so stupid. Of course it wasn't Yuki calling for me, it was the Lurker. It sounded so real.
I looked behind me and heard leaves move. Nothing. I see nothing. Hearing leaves and sticks crack again only made me panic. I shook Yuki violently calling his name but he didn't wake up.
I pulled him down to the ground trying to pick him up. I was not strong at all. I stopped moving when I felt something wet go down my arm.
Slowly looking up there it was. The Lurker standing right over us, I froze. Not knowing what to do. I knew not to make any sounds or move but I had guarantee it had known we were already here.
It's arms we're on either side of the huge rock we were in between. Dripping with red liquid I assumed to be blood from an animal I hoped.
It's body slowly moved down closer to where we were. I hovered over Yuki, holding on tight to his arms. I slowly looked down not wanting to look at it any longer.
As soon as it's head was right beside mine, it's attention focused straight ahead towards the camp once someone called my name out. Hearing my name again I didn't move since it was right beside me. Too scared it wouldn't care for whoever was calling for me.
"Hey!" That person scream again
The Lurkers hand moved into a fist, swinging it up in the arm. I closed my eyes as soon as it started to come towards me getting ready for the impact. Leaning all the way on Yuki to protect him.
I felt the liquid splatter on my face as it's arm swung but never felt a hit. A few seconds later, heavy breathing, I opened my eyes. Slowly looking behind me, there is was. Far away from us, laying on top of a broken tree that had looked like it had fallen on.
"Dawn! Hey! Hey!"
Feeling hands on my face I looked up to see Chan. He wrapped his arm around my face pulling me off Yuki and closer to him "are you okay? Dawn?"
I shook my head lightly, lost for words for what just happened. My vision going blurry and tears starting to stream down my face "it's okay, I got you"
I looked behind Chan to see the Lurker slowly beginning to get up. Chan noticing stood me up and threw Yuki over his shoulders.
"Come on"
He grabbed my hand and took off towards the fence. Once we got to the fence the Lurker had stoped once it got up. Just standing there moving it's head to the side. It's long arm almost touching the ground, twitched. I felt a tug and notice Chan motioning for me to follow him
"Take one of these. It'll be faster" I said as he listen and sat Yuki down in the four seated ATV. Chan started the vehicle and I told him which path to take to get to the beach.
We finally reached the the medical tent and I ran inside. Seeing a few people, I ran up to Rose who was helping someone "Rose I need your help it's Yuki!"
"Dawn? What the hell?" Travis said stopping what he was doing and coming by my side "you have blood all over you"
"I-It's not mine. Yuki needs help!"
Chan then barged into the large tent holding Yuki bridle style. Rose motioned for him to lay Yuki down on a bed and Travis and her got right to it.
"Tell me everything that happened" Rose demanded checking his eyes while Travis checked his pulse
I backed up into Chan who held my hand. I shook my head not knowing what to say, I didn't even know how he got hurt.
Chan took over for me. Telling them the Lurker was near us and Yuki had a gash in his head, not fully knowing how he got it. Rose told us everything would be okay and Travis said for us to wait outside so we weren't in the way.
I walked out with Chan, hand in hand and sat down beside him on a tree long "it's all my fault. I should have helped him to begin with" I cried
He threw and arm around my shoulders and I laid my head on his shoulder. If I had helped his get the bike to begin with, then I could have told him not to get the wheel, or at least go with him.
"Don't blame yourself. If anything you just saved his life"
