"Why him, and not me?"
You stood with your father on the rooftop, surveying the city below. He stood behind you, breaking out into a nervous sweat. The wind blew his straggly blond hair away from his face, showing the torment he was going through.
All Might breathed out slowly, trying to carefully construct his words. He didn't want to hurt you more than he already had.
"Y/N...listen to me very carefully," His hand placed weight upon your shoulder, further making the tears build up behind your eyes. It caused your throat to clench up, making your words hard to spill. "That boy, Izuku Midoriya, has an overwhelming passion that no one else can outmatch. I've seen the look in his eye, and you—"
"—Don't have it?" You finished.
The man found it hard to stay in his hero form, slowly losing control with every passing second. This was hurting him, too, not just you.
Your father nodded, even though you couldn't see it. His silence was enough for you.
"You promised that I..." Your anger started to shine through, and All Might dropped his hand. "...Would be just like you." Your bottom lip trembled, even when you bit it.
"Sweetheart, it's not your fault. You just aren't the predecessor I'm looking for." The steam started to rise from All Might's shoulders, creating a small cloud above his head.
"Alright, I understand."
Turning around, you opened the rooftop doors and descended below. You ignored your father's pleas to stay and talk, wanting nothing more than to just go home.
You couldn't enter U.A because you didn't have a quirk to begin with. Watching from TV and afar, your heart shriveled each time you saw your father with Midoriya. He treated him like a son.
He never acted with such kindness towards you before.
No one even knew All Might had a child. He worried about the media pestering you, or some villain holding you hostage. You were registered in a normal school as an orphan.
Property of the government you supposed.
You hid your tears seeing some of your classmates get into your dream school. Nobody saw the darkness that bloomed like a flower. The curtains were put up, and sealed in place.
All fantasies of becoming a hero left that day, and you cringed hearing the same news broadcast over and over. Everyone now knew that All Might was retired, and never returning to hero work. You thought it would finally be an opportunity to build a relationship with your father.
It was a hopeless dream.
The sidewalks were mainly deserted, and your footsteps echoed with each step. Your hands were deep in your pockets, fingering at the material within.
Catcalling was a constant factor, and it made you shrivel with disgust each time. The streets were dark and lonely after dinner time. You needed to be careful, less some creep snatched you up.
