Everyone was staring at you. No, they weren't. Wait, yes. Their eyes followed every movement you made. The quick rise and fall of your chest, your trembling fingers, and the old tear stains that stood out against your cheeks.
It was cold, and there was a light blanket of snow on the ground. Christmas decorations hung on every corner you took. Had it truly been so long? They took you during Christmas, but it couldn't have been a few days since then. No, it had been at least a year.
Your tattered scarf was tied tightly against your lower face, and your jacket was zipped up as high as it could go. Both weren't suited for winter weather, that's probably why everyone was staring at you so strangely. Or, it could be the several scattered marks along your skin. There were many odd features about you compared to everyone else.
Two steps, three steps, twenty steps. You kept pushing forward, following the signs posted at every block. The city lights were harsh against your eyes. After being kept inside a dark, cramped room for so long, this was all so new. Seeing people was new.
Snowflakes stuck to your eyelashes, but you blinked them away. Just like everything else, you blinked it away. There wasn't much that could scare you anymore. Izuku was the worst out of all three. Shoto was known to be cold, but still had a sense of empathy and understanding. Katsuki was just an ass, but similar to Shoto.
"Y/N? Are you out here?"
"Fuck!"
Your legs were already strained and exhausted, but you pushed harder. Several people cursed when you bumped their shoulder, but you didn't care about being low-key anymore. Izuku's voice rang out throughout the crowd; there was no mistaking it. A quick glance behind you proved that. There, a few meters away, was his tuffs of green hair. Shoto and Katsuki followed behind him, eyeing the crowd like vultures.
A distressed cry left your lips when your right ankle gave out, causing you to tumble onto the sidewalk. More tears, just like before, gave way to gravity. They melted the snowflakes on your eyelashes, but didn't warm the sense of disparity inside.
"Oh, dear! Are you alright?"
She was frail, old, and tiny. Her weak limbs helped you regain your footing, but your heart still hammered. Another quick look, and they were even closer. The crowd started to part, making you all the more visible in their line of sight. A few more steps, and a lucky glance, and they'd see you.
"Yes...yes...I-I need help, they're-!"
Her hand closed around yours, making you shriek in terror. Immediate guilt and remorse flooded her features. The old woman stared at the cuts and scars on your hands, a few tears gathering along her lash line.
"Found you."
It was Shoto who grabbed your shoulder, pulling you away from the woman. Her eyes flickered to Shoto's before narrowing. With long strides, she quickly untangled you from his arms.
"You don't grab a woman like that! What if-!"
You wasted no time in speed walking, ignoring the pain that pulsated in your ankle. Now wasn't the time to stop and watch. The police station would be right around the corner, so close to freedom-
