It was too cold for your liking. You wanted to walk faster; home was only a few minutes away. Your phone was dead, making your uneasiness grow. The only thing stopping you from increasing your pace was the set of light footsteps behind you.
You knew you shouldn't have left home, especially during the high rise in crime and villains. Everyone warned you against it, but you thought something bad would never happen. When you left the busy streets, instead turning to walk on more desolate and quiet ones, was when you noticed someone was taking the same path. You tried to walk more slowly in hopes they'd get ahead, but they only matched their speed to your own.
Your attire wasn't doing much to protect you from the biting cold. The scarf around your face kept wanting to unloosen, unraveling with each step you'd take. With a frustrated sigh, you pulled it tighter against your face.
A voice cleared itself behind you. It was deep, masculine, and didn't sound friendly at all. You didn't show any reaction, instead keeping the same pace to avoid suspicion. When they cleared their throat again, however this time louder and closer, you briefly flinched before turning your head.
His face was entirely obscured, and he was dressed in a black jacket and jeans. The sleeves to his jacket were rolled up to his elbows, frightening you with the scarred, burnt flesh on his arms. He tilted his head upwards the slightest bit, pulling his mask down to flash you the tiniest smile.
"Aren't we going the same way?" He asked, taking advantage of how you had stilled. In seconds he had quickly walked to now stand by your side. "If you don't mind, I feel like walking with you. Not a problem, right?" Before you could answer, his hand firmly pressed against the small of your back, urging you forward with you.
"I...I don't..." you quickly turned your head, frowning when you couldn't see anyone else around. "I don't think we'll be going the same way for much longer. You see, I have friends-"
"-Aren't I your friend? We've been walking the same way for a while, and now we're talking like friends." Your eyes flickered to his face, seeing that he had now readjusted his mask to cover everything below the bridge of his nose. His eyes were focused on the path ahead of you, but then flitted towards you. In a panic, you looked away and bit your tongue.
He laughed, and then slid his hand from your back to your arm. Gripping it tightly, he pulled you closer against him. It was uncomfortably warm. You preferred the nipping cold.
"With all due respect..." you mumbled, sneaking another glance towards his face. His eyes were crazed looking, seeming to almost look entirely through you. "...I'd like if you didn't touch me. I don't know you."
You expected him to listen, but he didn't seem to quite hear what you had said. He wasn't blinking, but after a moment, his hand dropped back to his side. You were still far too close to his side for comfort, taking a few steps to the side to increase the distance.
"She said you were shy, but I didn't think you'd be this skittish!" He began to walk again, urging you with a wave of his hand to follow. You kept behind him, again looking around for any signs of other people.
"Uh, who's she?" You asked, slowing your pace even more. He noticed your absence, pausing and looking over his shoulder.
"A friend, closer to your age. Her name is Toga." He was incredibly still, barely breathing as he anticipated you to suddenly make a move. You swallowed, wincing when it felt dry. His gaze made the hair on your arms raise. The back of your neck tingled, and the feeling traveled down along your spine.
