He was there during your first breath, and would be present during the last. His duty was made known to him by the heavens, and he would be a fool to question it.

His wings fluttered seeing you take your first steps, and say your first words. Midoriya smiled as you grew older, experiencing the joys that life had to offer. While it may sound sinister, he counted the days left in your life. He couldn't wait to introduce himself once you crossed into the gates of Heaven.

But, something went wrong. The impossible happened. Midoriya didn't know what to think of it.

Just shy of your fifteen birthday, you and your friends walked the several blocks to the theater. You weren't enjoying yourself like you thought you would. Your friends had abandoned you, picking up the pace on their own. They left you behind, not realizing how upset you became.

You wiped away the tears, ridiculing yourself at how easily you had cried. Standing alone on the sidewalk, you hung your head in shame. It seemed as if everytime you planned an outing, the people you invited would cast you aside.

Something soft brushed last your shoulder, and then landed at your feet. It was a white feather, which glimmered white under the sun. There were no imperfections. Upon looking closer, there were specks of gold that swirled around the edges.

It was so soft between your fingers, and it fluttered under your touch. The wind picked up, blowing the feather away.

Turning around to go back home, you stared dumbfounded at the man in front of you. He was on the shorter side, but his appearance made up for it. His green hair spiked up on the ends, and his freckles stood out against his pale skin. The strangest part, was the heavy set armor he wore with ease.

Your brows furrowed, and you cleared your throat.

"Uh...hi! Your costume looks...cool." You tried to force a genuine smile, but it came out crooked and awkward.

He wasn't sure what to say.

A few more white feathers danced around his form, before landing at your feet once more. They made a chiming noise the closer they got.

The awkwardness made you unbelievably uncomfortable.

"I'll be going now, have a wonderful evening—"

You walked past him, sucking in a breath when his hand brushed against yours. It sent a warm feeling throughout your chest. The feeling was one of comfort and love. With a choked gasp, you coughed into your fist and scurried away.

Midoriya was glued to the sidewalk, and couldn't even turn his head to watch you go. You had seen him. Your eyes scanned over his form, taking in every little detail. A human had seen an angel; something that was not possible until death.

He wasn't sure whether he could return to his duty of watching over you. What if you could still see him? Would you scream for the authorities, and possibly look like a crazy person?

The angel took his time in following you home, and his fears of being seen once more rattled inside his head. Your front door was open, which was foolish on your part. Midoriya always made sure to close it. He watched as your mother made supper for the evening, grinning to himself when it was your favorite meal.
