Chapter 8 - Chosen

"Wanda and Pietro Maximoff. Twins. Orphaned at ten when a shell collapsed their apartment building. Sokovia's had a rough history." Maria explains to me. "Thanks to the data that Nat send over from the mission, we finally have confirmation of the two enhanced individuals that gave you all trouble."

"So what are their abilities?" I ask Maria as she shows me their picture. I look at Wanda and can't help to think how pretty she is, even though she looks angry. I shake off the thought.

"He's got increased metabolism and improved thermal homeostasis. Her thing is neural electric interfacing, telekinesis, mental manipulation." Maria answers.

"Wait, she has the same powers as me?"

"Yea she is weird and her brother is fast"

"Well thanks for letting me know how you feel about me" I say rolling my eyes

"C'mon Y/N. That is not what I meant. It's because of her that you touched the stone. So forgive me if I am not a fan of hers."

"Yea ok. What else did you find?"

"They volunteered for Strucker's experiments. They chose to do this. Who does that?"

"Don't let Steve hear you judging them for volunteering. I would have to believe they are doing what they think is right and to protect their country like Steve did."

"Steve did what he did when he was at war Y/N. Its not the same thing. We are not are war now."

"Well no WE are not... but from what you just explained to me about Sokovia, they are."

"Couldn't agree with you more Y/N" Steve says as he enter our research room. "I just wanted to come check in on you Y/N. How are you doing? How's your training coming along with your abilities?"

"Its ... um... It's going Steve. Yelena has been helping me with my combat training using my abilities and Kate has helped me with meditation. So far it has helped keep my emotions in check and now I don't hear people's thought 24/7."

"Good I'm glad. Y/N, I want to introduce the idea of you training with the rest of the avengers. Maybe you would even consider joining the team. Well I mean the Avengers."

"She is not going on missions to fight Steve." Maria said stepping in front of me.

"With all due respect Maria, her new abilities can really help us on the field. It will even out the battle field now that we are facing someone with her same abilities. Tony has been running tests on the scepter since we were able to retrieve it. I am hoping he can get a better insight to your abilities Y/N. Which reminds me, Tony wants to speak to you Y/N."

I look at Maria who is upset with the whole situation.

"Ok Steve i'll be up in a bit. Can you just let me talk to Maria for a second."

"Of course Y/n, see you later. I am sorry Maria I didn't mean to upset you."

"Yea." Maria says clearly irritated, as Steve turns around to leave.

"Ria I don't want you to get concerned about this. We knew this was bound to happened. Fury is alway looking for new recruits with abilities."

"Y/N they want you to join the Avengers. I don't want that for you. I already messed up by not stopping you once and you were put in danger with these new abilities. Now you will be forced to go on missions that will be a lot more dangerous. This was never the life I wanted of you Y/N"

"Ria we can't be going back and forth with this topic. You have alway respected me and my choices. I ask that you continue to do so. I don't think I have a choice but to join the Avengers. With these abilities, I would be selfish if I did not use them to help people. Anyways let me go see what Tony wants and we can continue to talk about this later ok?"
