Akshara followed a visibly annoyed Sunita out of the office. Akshara couldn't begin to understand why she had staked a claim on a near stranger, she just couldn't bear to watch Sunita's flirting and wanted to somehow edge herself into Abhimanyu's inner circle. It was so bizarre, but she couldn't not do it. It was almost like her mouth grew a mind of it's own and his name merely stumbled out before she could stop it.
She just knew that she had somehow just made an enemy out of Sunita and that wasn't putting her heart at ease. All she wanted was to make a good impression with people she was going to work with and look what she did? It hadn't even been two whole hours and she had already met someone who didn't like her. Akshara did not have this need to be liked by everyone but when you suffer from an anxiety disorder, it feels like the world's weight would crush your shoulder every time you knew someone was talking about you behind your back, she mused. She had to visibly shake herself out of her downward spiral before she made an even bigger fool of herself and followed Sunita quietly as she led her to the other members of the staff. Sunita acerbically pointed out where everything was, and Akshu could tell that all she wanted to do was get away from her as soon as possible which was honestly fine with her. She could roam around by herself and meet the kids.
Once Sunita had given her a (very very brief) tour, she immediately hightailed it out of there leaving Akshara in the main hall of the house where the children's lodging space was located. Akshara roamed around taking a mental note of where everything was and trying to find where the kids were at this moment. She followed the sounds of chatters and yelling which led her to the dining area where she could see all the kids sitting on the floor eating a late lunch while Mrs. Dutta and Jay supervised them. Jay was goofing around with the kids and Akshu observed everyone from the sidelines not wanting to impose upon them. Vansh the little kid who had spoken to her earlier looked up and saw her and let out a loud whoop which caused all the kids to turn their heads. Guess hiding and observing was out of the question thought Akshara and she made her way into the dining room. Some kids looked at her inquisitively while some didn't bother to glance up from their meal. Only Vansh and one other kid tried to talk to her. Akshara knew how big of a change any new people might bring for these young impressionable kids and wanted to make them as comfortable with her as possible, so she went around individually to each kid and introduced herself while asking them about their names, their likes dislikes etc to try and create a personal rapport with them.
"Didi what do you teach" A young brave boy asked her; this grabbed all the kids' attention, and they looked up at her for an answer.
"I teach music, but it's less of a teaching and more of just having fun with you guys, we won't have exams or anything I promise" she told the kids with a cheeky smile on her face. No exams was a sure shot way to win over these kids and sure enough, all the kids seemed to look at her now with a renewed sense of respect.
"Are you Abhimanyu Bhaiya's girlfriend?" the same kid asked her once more and all she could do was let out a splutter "Uh.. no.." she stammered out before hurriedly changing the subject.
Jay who was watching this all play out pitched in with a "Guys she is not his girlfriend and now if you don't want me to complain to Abhimanyu Sir, you will all finish eating your food quickly" Akshara looked at Jay gratefully who just beamed at her.
"Mrs. Dutta, what will the kids doing after lunch? Do you think we could fit an hour-long music session with them? Only if they are not tired." Akshara asked Mrs. Dutta who was quietly but sternly supervising the kids
"Yes the kids generally don't have a set schedule for the weekend and most just hang out and nap or watch some tv but an hour away from their free time shouldn't hurt and it might be a nice way for them to integrate themselves with you so you can learn more about them and their psych." Akshara smiled at Mrs. Dutta's reply and her help. At least she had some people here who even if skeptical wanted her to succeed and a chance is all she was asking for.
