TRIGGER WARNING: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
As more and more people crowded their area, Akshara had to scoot herself closer to him and he was definitely not complaining. He could feel every inhale she took and every time she moved her head to talk to someone around her, he was hit with her fragrance, a scent so potent and uniquely her that he would lose his train of thought. They hadn't exchanged any other words after she fed him her food, but he could have spent hours and days just being in her presence. Her existence was enough!
The hours passed quickly with people leaving their table and coming together, dancing, drinking, and laughing. At one point the loser who had been dancing exceptionally close to Akshara earlier came up to her to ask for another dance, and Abhi felt his blood boil. Akshara had turned around to the guy and was sweetly chatting with him but her thigh and body were still pressed close to him, like hell would he let her leave with this idiot. As she was about to take his hand to go dance to a song, he clamped his hand on her thigh resting under the table stopping her from moving. This caused Akshara to splutter before she made up some excuse about being too tired, sending the guy packing. Abhimanyu felt his chest puff up, no way was some loser getting time with her. He could see Akshara looking at his side profile, but he continued his conversation with Neil like nothing was out of place, his hand still on her thigh and he could feel the goosebumps breaking on her skin. He was going to remove his hand; he really was but it just felt so good to feel her smooth skin under his roughened palms that he wanted to soak as much of it in as he could. But he shouldn't have forgotten that this was Akshara, his Akshara! She was not going to be a silent spectator and let him power through everything like he normally would, bulldozing everyone who dared to come in the way. For this was Akshara, who could send him on his knees with a look, touch and talk. She too turned to her other side and involved Nishtha into an intricate story about something Abhi had no interest in knowing about, but unbeknownst to everyone, she placed her hand on top of his palm and threaded their fingers together, still chatting with Nishtha without a hitch and now he was the one looking at her side profile like an idiot. This girl...
As the night progressed into early dawn, everyone around him got progressively drunk especially Aarohi and Akshara and they were like the beacons of light that just attracted every moth because every guy in the room would look over at their table every few minutes and be entranced by the two sisters and their entertaining stories. All the while her hand stayed clasped safely in his. Abhimanyu had never felt the surge of emotions currently flooding his entire being and he had to crawl into his safety net of being the emotionless, cold-hearted Dr. Birla, for this was all he knew, and this mask provided him with comfort like nothing else. Akshara was too drunk to realize the gradual change ascending on Abhimanyu and he was grateful for that, so while they sat with almost no physical barriers between them, Abhimanyu had started erecting his mental and emotional barriers around his heart, especially when he saw her laughing freely with everyone and being the reason for the love reflecting in so many eyes here.
Dawn soon broke out and when Kairav saw a lopsided Akshara and Nishta resting their heads on Neil's shoulder, he ambled over to Abhimanyu who let her hand go under the table finally after what was probably hours. "Abhimanyu you seem to be the only sane one on this table, would you be okay taking Aaru Akshu home? Vansh and I will make sure Anisha gets home with the rest of your family. I want to be sure everyone here has a ride."
Abhimanyu ran a hand over his face, slowly building his mask piece by piece and nodded at Kairav to let him know he'd do the needful. He slowly got up and gathered Aarohi, Neil and finally Akshara. Aarohi and Akshara were really really out of it, and Neil seemed to be not far behind, but he still had his wits about him which Abhi was grateful for, as he would need help transporting the two girls to their car. He grabbed Akshara by the waist and she rested her head on his shoulder, Abhi looked behind him to see Neil was doing the same for Aarohi and supporting her as they slowly climbed the stairs having to stop multiple times and heave the girls closer to them as they became boneless suddenly. Abhimanyu didn't remember much of the drive back, he spent most of deep in thought about Akshara and him and how he would navigate this feeling of uncertainty. The last thing he wanted to be the reason her spark was dimmed and that was going to be the eventual outcome if she stuck it out with him. He was the spawn of the devil and all he would bring in her life was trouble and hurt.
