Regulus and Barty's relationship was fast-paced, all tongue, and pulling each other into empty corridors, classrooms, and broom closets. They were still friends before anything else, but there was a white hot passion lying under that, fueled by mutual attraction and repressed feelings. Regulus knew this would never turn into love for either of them but went along with it regardless. There were certain things Barty started doing, though, that made Regulus freeze every time.
Regulus and Barty were in a broom closet again, some time between classes when Regulus felt a hand on his thigh and he froze.
"Reg?" Barty looked at him confused. It was only a matter of time before he caught on. Regulus thought he was a freak for feeling this way, but it was the one thing he couldn't bury and ignore. Instead, he tried to play it off.
"We should get to class." He whispered, pushing Barty's hand off of him.
"You're right." Barty rolled his eyes, "maybe another time, " he winked.

The full moon was in only a few days. James and Sirius wanted to find ways to distract Remus from his anxiety in the passing days. When they weren't in class, there wasn't much else to do other than plan pranks and watch quidditch.
The group of four sat in the stands, watching another Slytherin game. This time, they played against Ravenclaw, and currently Ravenclaw was winning, and if Regulus didn't catch the snitch soon, Slytherin would lose, and James wouldn't get to play against them again.
Remus and Sirius sat close to each other, whispering something inaudible to each other. James wanted to know what it was, but he knew he couldn't pry. He shifted his attention back to the game and found his eyes on Regulus again. It was like he was a magnet, James couldn't look away. He knew Regulus hated him, but he couldn't stay away.
James watched as Regulus maneuvered the pitch, dodging bludgers and other players in his search for the small golden ball. It wasn't long until James caught a glimpse of the snitch and he noticed Regulus saw it too, and bolted in the opposite direction only for a moment to throw off the Ravenclaw seeker, who fell for it, darting off across the pitch as Regulus got closer to the snitch.
Regulus reached out, almost standing on his broom, the snitch just barely out of reach. James noticed a bludger coming straight for him with no beaters in sight. Others must have noticed, too, because James heard murmuring across the stadium.
James wanted to do something - yell his name - save him somehow, but he knew he couldn't. He watched as the bludger hit him straight in the ribs the second he caught the snitch. The game ended before the ref even knew what happened, Slytherin was announced the winner as Regulus fell through the sky, and James nearly jumped out of the stands, pulling his wand out, "levioso" He yelled before Regulus hit the ground, making him hover just slightly before James stopped it, causing Regulus to hit the floor.
"Holy shit James! nice reflexes, " peter said. James ignored him and ran past his friends and shoved through the crowds, running to the pitch where madam Pomfrey was already there looking at regulus, who lied unconscious on the grass.
"Potter, are you the one who cast that levitation charm?" Madam Pomfrey asked. James kneeled next to the regulus, getting a look at the bruise on his ribs. It was huge, and he definitely had some broken bones. James nodded hurriedly.
"Will he be okay?"
"He will be okay, I need to bring him to the infirmary. You are welcome to accompany me if you want." She said before levitating him into the castle. James followed soon after her, the rest of the marauders catching up to him by then.
"What the hell, James? Where are you going?" Sirius asked. James rolled his eyes. It was just like Sirius to not notice his brother nearly fall to his death.
"No time to explain, i'm going to the hospital wing." James stormed off. He didn't know why he was so mad at Sirius, but he was.
James eventually made it to the hospital wing after purposely getting lost and wandering. By the time he got there, it was dark outside, and James had no idea what time it actually was. Regulus was still asleep in his hospital bed, but looked better than he did before. A bandage was wrapped around his torso, but James figured it would heal fast.
James sat in a seat next to Regulus and looked at him. he had never been this close to Regulus to admire his beauty. He always knew the regulus was beautiful, which honestly was a miracle knowing how inbred his family was, but Regulus and Sirius were still beautiful. regulus had very similar features to Sirius with their shared dark hair and pasty white skin that refused to tan, but Regulus's features were sharper, his nose slightly smaller, and he had more freckles dusting his cheeks. James swears he could have seen constellations if he looked hard enough at those freckles, but the moment was lost as soon as he realized what he was doing.
What was he doing?
before he got the chance to think about it long enough, Regulus was waking up. "What are you doing here?" He asked in a groggy voice, but still as pissed as ever.
"You almost died. I just... I wanted to make sure you were alright." James stammered.
"Well, I'm fine, you can leave now." Regulus turned his head away, wincing slightly.
James jumped up and grabbed Regulus's hand, he flinched slightly when James touched him, "Regulus I want you to know that even if you hate me, I am here for you, and I know you don't want to hear it, but Sirius loves you. He loves you so much that it hurts him to see you go home every holiday and summer. He still wants you to come with him, we can help you." James said, leaning closer to Regulus than he should have, but he couldn't help it. Regulus was so captivating it as hard not to gravitate towards him.
James heard another person enter the hospital wing, "Regulus are you -" The voice cut off as he came in view. It was Barty Crouch Jr. James let go of Regulus and backed up, too late. James just ruined everything, just like he always did. He was stupid. He just wanted to help. "Regulus, you - with Him?" Barty looked disgusted and ran out of the hospital wing before Regulus got a chance to explain, and he couldn't run after him.
"Fuck you James Potter. I never want to see your face again." Regulus spat.
"I didn't mean to make it seem like - "
"Get out."
"-but"
"Out."
James did as Regulus said and left the hospital wing, taking one look back at the broken boy. He knew he fucked up. He just wanted to help, but always fucked it up in the end.

Well hello again people, how are you guys? I'm not doing too well. I'm not terrible, not heartbroken but just fucking upset. My boyfriend broke up with me the night before my birthday at like midnight and did it over Instagram dms in the stupidest way possible and then has the audacity to start sending me memes almost directly afterward.
Literally what he said was we need to talk then "I'm tired of you" before barely elaborating. Then goes on to ask to still be friends, which whatever I don't care I've known the idiot for years but just the way he did it was so assholish. And he said he wasn't sure whether to do it before or after my birthday like bitch what do you think. Holy shit. I wish I could have said it came unexpectedly but It didn't. This happens in every relationship I get in. Anyway that's enough of my weird life shit. I hope you enjoyed this chapter, well as much as you can enjoy this trainwreck.
