The night of the full moon, the boys went through their normal routine, right before nightfall, they would sneak out. Nobody ever saw them, and if they did, they didn't stop them because they thought the boys were just sneaking around the school as they did often.
This time was different.
Lily Evans sat in the common room, arms crossed, staring at the four boys who were frozen on the stairs.
"Where are you boys going?" She asked expectantly. They knew there was no way past her. She was Lily.
"Lily, we have to go... we can explain tomorrow." Sirius looked around anxiously, knowing they didn't have much time. Remus was already going through bursts of pain, signaling that he was close to transforming.
"No. I'm not going to wait for your excuses. I always see you guys start to act weird, and then a few days later, you sneak out only for Remus to be in the infirmary and out of classes for days at a time. What are you guys doing that is hurting him so much? Remus, please." She was standing up now, inching closer to the group, begging for answers.
"Lily, I wish I could tell you." Remus said
"So why can't you? Why can your boyfriends all know but I can't? I thought I was your friend too! If you go out and get yourself hurt again, I will tell a professor, I'll go get McGonagall right now!" She threatened.
"She knows I'm sneaking out. Her and Dumbledore both. Telling them will only get them to make up dumb excuses, don't you get it." Remus practically begged, he was honestly surprised she hadn't already found out, after years of the same pattern. She was smart. There was no way she didn't notice this always occurring on the full moon.
"What is your secret? You know I don't like jumping to conclusions and - God, I'm worried for you, for all of you." She said.
"Lily I-" James started, but Remus doubled down in pain, letting out a groan.
"We need to go!" Sirius said, pulling Remus up, supporting his weight on his shoulders. Peter got on the other side of Remus and helped, and the three ran past Lily without another word.
"James. Aren't you going with them?" She sneered.
"Lily, I don't know how you don't already know, to a person like you, it should be blatantly obvious. I promise we will explain tomorrow, but Moony needs me." He said, and without another word, he sprinted out after his friends, leaving Lily alone and pissed in the empty common room.
Of course, she had her suspicions, but..
They made no sense at all. Was Remus a...Werewolf?
That couldn't be. She knew that couldn't be it. She noticed the behavior around the full moon, but that had to be a coincidence. If Remus was a werewolf, why would he be allowed at Hogwarts? Were there others? There was no way he was the only one. Lily was not dumb. She saw what Greyback was doing, so how were there no other Hogwarts aged werewolves.
That's why Remus couldn't possibly be one. It just didn't make sense. Remus was the nicest boy ever. Sure, he was a troublemaker and friends with idiots like James Potter, but he was smart and kind and always willing to help anyone.

They almost didn't make it to the shrieking shack. Right as they were at the end of the tunnel, Remus started to turn. There wasn't enough room for James to turn into his animagus form, so Sirius as a dog had to drag Remus away the best he could as the half wolf half man was writhing in pain. Sirius manages to drag Remus out to give James enough room right as Remus fully turned. As James hurriedly got out of the tunnel, Remus tried jumping on him, only to be blocked by Padfoot. James had just enough time to change into his stag form before getting attacked.
Prongs used his large horns to shield himself from the wolf coming at him. His horns stabbed into Moony as he tried to claw at Prongs.
It was quite Jarring, this was the first time he was attacked by Moony. He wasn't hurt at all, and the rest of the night went as it normally did. Remus didn't hurt himself too badly, and the next morning, the boys left before Madame Pomfrey took him.𝄽
When Remus regained consciousness, he realized he was in more pain than usual. It felt like he was in first year again, dealing with it all alone. He noticed faint bite marks on his arm and one of his legs, and he needed to ask his friends what happened.
The first person to walk into the hospital wing was Sirius, alone weirdly enough, but Remus had no idea what time it was
"Oh you're awake. I should have brought some food. I left for a few minutes to grab lunch." Sirius sat in a chair that was next to the hospital gurney.
"Are you skipping classes just to sit here with me?" Remus asked, face tinted red. Of course he knew this didn't mean anything, Sirius would jump at any chance to get out of defense against the dark arts.
"What happened last night?" Remus asked.
"Well. Since Lily held us up, you started turning earlier than we expected right when we were near the end of the tunnel to the shack, and since James was behind everyone, he was trapped and it was too narrow for him to change to a stag... so you tried to attack him. I had to bite you to hold you back long enough for James to change into a stag and after that everyone was fine. Are you okay?" Sirius explained
"I'm fine, just a little bruised up, how's James?" Remus asked
"You didn't hurt him Moony." Sirius must have seen his expression. Remus's worst nightmare would be to hurt his friends. He hated his stupid curse.

The second person to enter the hospital wing was Lily Evans. After all her classes were over, of course, and she was demanding answers.
"What the fuck is going on Remus?" She looked angry, her red face almost matching shades with her fiery red hair.
"Have you not figured it out already? You're smart, there's no way you haven't figured it out." Remus said back.
"You can't be a - there's no way." She stammered, still denying it.
"A what? A werewolf? Because you guessed right." Remus said passive aggressively. He hate being rude, but couldn't help it in his condition.
"Are there others?" Was all Lily said, but Remus shook his head. He would know if there were, but to his knowledge, there were none. He knew it was odd, and knew Lily must be thinking the same. Why would Dumbledore only allow one werewolf at Hogwarts, knowing Fenrir Greyback, there had to be dozens of them of age to go to Hogwarts, so why?
