Sirius collapsed onto the sofa with a sob, covering his mouth with his hand to muffle the noise. He was alone now. Despite all their hardships, Sirius had always been able to go to Remus or James for comfort. Even Regulus recently. Sirius curled up in a ball in his dog form, trying not to whimper until he felt a hand running through his fur. He looked up to see Effie sitting next to him.
Sirius shifted back into his human form, "I'm sorry." He managed through tears, the sudden emotion overwhelming him again. Dealing with his feelings in his animagus form was always easier.
"For what? The only people you should be sorry for are yourself and Remus, only if you feel you have something to be sorry about. It's none of my concern what you do with your life." She said.
"I love you Effie." Sirius sobbed.
"I love you too son. Would you like to talk about it?" She asked softly.
Sirius sniffled and sat up, "We can't stop accusing each other and arguing. Plus, we never get to see each other anymore, so every time we get a chance to see each other, it's another accusation. We made up but we got into another argument, it's my fault. But if we can't trust each other, I can't be in a relationship with him." He sobbed into her arms for a long time, staining the shoulder of her sweater with tears. "I know you loved him. He was another son to you."
"he was." Effie nodded, "but don't let that make you feel guilty."
"Maybe one day I'll - I'll find someone else, and maybe you'll be able to love them the same way you loved him."

"Pettigrew. Thank you for meeting with me." The dark lord folded his hands together regally.
"It's a pleasure meeting you my Lord." Peter bowed his head. For as long as he had been a death eater, he had never gotten the honor to meet Lord Voldemort before. Snape was always the spy, the reliable one even if Peter was the one with more information.
"the war will be coming to an end very soon thanks to your help. I have already sent death eaters to one of the families we suspect. Now you're the last puzzle piece." Voldemort had a very pleasant smile on his face, but his inhuman face twisted it into something sinister.
Peter nodded and apparated to Godric's Hollow alongside the Dark Lord, "It's this house." Peter held back a grimace. Was he really doing this to his best friend?
The house didn't look any different than its neighbors. No traces of magic. You couldn't even see movement from inside, if anything it looked abandoned.
Peter took a deep breath. He was on the winning side of the war. He was doing what he had to.

"I'm going to check on Peter," Sirius told Effie before leaving the house. It was Halloween night, but it was Sirius's turn to make his rounds. After James and Regulus went into hiding, the rest of them decided to do regular rounds of checking in on each other, just so nobody was cast out or could be alone for too long to be targeted by the Death Eaters.
When he arrived at Peter's flat, it was completely deserted. Peter should have been home, but he was nowhere to be found. His house keys were still inside, as well as everything he would usually have taken with him if he left. Could he have been taken? Killed?
Except there was no evidence of a struggle. If the death eaters came, Peter would have fought back, right?
A faint blue glow approached from the open door. Sirius turned around with a jolt to see the glow of a patronus. A large glowing blue stag stood in front of him.
