"So, that's it. You are Johnny Depp's daughter. You got it. 100 percent," she says. "I just didn't want you to know. He just ghosted me and I was very hurt and that was wrong. I guess I didn't mention it as well, because I didn't want your feelings to be hurt if he didn't reach out or say something."
"I understand mom."
"Honey, I am tired. I have to work tomorrow and I smell like pee. I need to shower. Please, come over and we'll talk. I think you are old enough to now know."
"Mom, I love you. I always have. You did the best that you could with what you had. I love you so, so much."
"I love you, too. The moment I surmised I was pregnant for you, I loved you oh so very much. More than you'd ever know."

We were both crying and sobbing. "Come over and I will tell you more," she told me as I walked to my car. It was a damp, late March night and I could smell the pine needles from the big pine trees. A lot had been admitted tonight. A lot I didn't know about my mom.   My mom talking as openly about sex as she did and I could tell there was a faraway look in her eye that she DID still love hum.   I remember one time in 2003 my mom crying at "What's Eating Gilbert Grape."  She admitted she cried because she thought that if he was a small town boy like Gilbert, she would have sheen spared fifteen and a half years with Dad, or Rob.   Over the next few weeks, I would get to know my mother very well and see a new side to her, the selfishness, the settling, the being stuck, the unrest....

I text Sadie, because I have had to be there before at ungodly hours.

"Hey. I just got done at my mom's and I have a lot to tell you.  I AM Johnny Depp's child."
"Frankly, it was a long day and I am quite put off that you message me like this at fucking 11:38!   I mean really?"
"I thought you'd just want to talk.  I am your girlfriend."
"We'll just because you're my girlfriend doesn't mean you have to ASSUME that I really want to talk about something that is so important to you.  I have problems, too."
"I'm sorry."
"Now, let me sleep.  I have an early morning tomorrow, but did you ASK!"

I drive home.   I am near tears.  Scott is that the firehouse.   I text him.

"You up?"
"Yeah.   Watching TV alone."
"Do you have some time for me?"
"Always for my little brown eyed girl."
"I just talked to Sadie and she said she didn't have time for what I had to say."
"Like, I said, 'Fuck Her'.   Why are you with her.  She's a fat slob.   You could find a pretty lesbian."
"Very funny."
"So, what's up?
"I was talking to my mom tonight and she went into detail about my conception and Johnny Depp ghosted my mom."
"Really?"
"She said that hurt her and that she didn't want me hurt like she was.  Plus she did him in the house she stayed at with my Grandma and friend.   They did it doggy style."
"Logical.   He ghosted your mom?  She's gorgeous.  I would love to see that visual."
"Yeah.  I want to pursue meeting him."
"Do what you want.  To be honest, I think he would be pretty proud of you."
"A receptionist at a law firm and a part time bar tender."
"You are so kind, you're a good cook, we love your dog Venus, and you are beautiful.  He'd like those things for sure."

We talk a little more.   Scott was my best friend, even as a blonde kid who had a perpetually dirty face.   He has been me naked.  Of course at six, when we would swim during the day and his mom would help me get dressed.   Something told me Scott was "The One".  I was beginning to  think that maybe I needed to end things with Sadie.   She was pretty rude to me when I ran her all over town to get the things that she needed like a measuring cup.  I listened to her cry when she got a bad message from church.   I took her to the store when I didn't feel good, looked for her body wash at her old place when. I had to get up early and she never thanked me, said she was sorry or anything.

I was at a crossroads.

I needed to end things with Sadie AND I needed to talk to Paul.  I wanted to meet Johnny and tell him about my beautiful mom that he left high and dry.  Mom said she wanted to talk some more, at The Club Car a trendy restaurant, on Friday night.  "Dress up.  We'll be two pretty women on the town!"  She texted.
