Northbrook was the City Mall.   EastEnd was forgotten.  It still sang 1974.   It still rang disco era.   However, mom loved it because it had the best deals and she didn't run  into clients.   Johnny went incognito.  He wore a mask, had his hair in a hoodie and no one ever knew.   I walked around with them for an hour or so and then I went to look at a few things on my own.  I went to the big department store, as Charisse wanted me to wear a black dress.   I found a cute velvet one with little sparkles.   I texted her and she said, "Gorgeous  Get it!   Use my card!!  Also, get some lingerie.   Also, dress like a bum tomorrow.   You turned him on."   I was flattered.   I did watch his dick rise when I walked into the room.

I sign Charisse's name and then go buy panties at Victoria's Secret.   I went to Vanessa's for a specialty bra.    The old lady who looked like someone's grandma picked me out a really cute one.    I looked at a few dresses.  I paused.   I saw myself on a lawn this summer, pregnant, but not with Charisse, but Peter and we were together.   I saw Scott's wedding as well, and I was in the congregation smiling.  He was my best friend.

I went to a few clothing stores.   I heard someone say Jade softly.  I turned around and it was Peter, dressed in a Sigma Phi Epsilon sweatshirt.

      "Hi," I say.

"Hi.  I just want to apologize.  Yesterday was so awkward.   You were so nervous and Charisse is not very nice to you."

"She's just uptight."

"No.   She's an asshole."

"How do you  know her."

"Grew up with her.  She's always wanted this baby.   She's been a Johnny Depp fan for years, HATED your mom because of it."

"Oh. Do you know my mom?"

"Amy?"

"Yes, Amy."

"Hello, Peter," she said.  He kisses her on the cheek.   "How do you know Jade."

"Charisse."

"Oh.  Charisse."

"I just told her she was an asshole."

"Well, I had better go with him.  We are taking Mr. Hardigan to the MCL.  Oh, this is my dad, or Johnny Depp."

"Pleased to meet you.   Jade can I have your number.  I may need to call you if you are going to doctor appointments or anything."   Mom looked puzzled.

"What is going on with you two?"

"Nothing,"  I say.  "I am working for him at the college.  Is he creepy?"

"Better than Charisse.  He's nice.   He was always kind.  He was eyeing you."

"Not really.  He is just nice."

"If you say, Jade."

Over lunch we talk about New Year's Eve. Mom and Johnny are just staying home. I am going with Charisse to a party.   Jody, my friend from high school is going to O'Reilley's.  I would rather go there, smoke cigars and hang with Scott.   I talk to her from time to time   Seems all of my time is spent with Charisse   "I am diggin' this food," Johnny said.   Mom talked about how they went to the cafeteria with the blue hairs every Sunday after church.   He was so cute.   I looked at my phone and it said, "Jade, don't find this creepy, but I want to be ALONE with you.  I felt a chemistry there the moment you walked out of that bathroom.  I don't know if you did, but I sure as hell did."   My insides still felt like we were doing it and when I peed It burned.   I typed back, "Yes."   He told me, "I'd love to meet  you alone and do to you what you deserve."  I told him, "Perhaps, but Charisse is crazy."   He said, "We'll talk soon.   My father's law office is always available.  We can go upstairs."   I was going to take him up on that offer.

I went home and thought good thoughts about Peter for once;   His dad's law office was the old office supply store and the upstairs was a rooming house aka storeroom. "My dad is eighty, he won't hear a thing," he told me.
