Alice's POV
'What a cruel thing, fate..'
Nightshade of all things... I feel like Vicebrook is purposely fucking with me now. Just how much did this guy stalk us? Fucking creep...
We were currently still in this damn meeting room. Not counting myself, the first to accept the role was the elf Zayne. Turns out I was almost on point with my earlier assessment. Apparently he was classified as a Mystic Shade Archer, an ancient subclass of a Divine Druid.
What had taken so gods damned long to get past all that was of course the stupid foxkin Larain. It took her awhile to accept it mostly because she was somehow under the impression that she would be able to continue to lead her squad of knights.
Seeing as how nothing has even came close to her expectations, she was confused. She did eventually snap out of it though. I also learned that she was technically classified as something called a Yin Yang Knight.
Apparently it wasn't a subclass of anything, but an extremely rare Divine Knight who was able to shift back and forth between a Warrior class and a Rogue class. Guess little miss priss here has a lot more to her then meets the eye.
"Now that all of that is settled, we need to straighten out a few things before you head out."
Standing up and walking over to the wall in the back of the room, he placed his hand on a space between two of the magic crystals used for lights. A moment later a small portion of the wall slid down into the floor, revealing what looked to be a staircase leading down.
"I had all of this built a few months ago in hopes that you all would accept your roles. The only ones who know of it's existence are the ones present in this room and the Arch mage that helped me to construct everything.
"From this day forward, until the war is over, this will be your new home. Let's head down and get everything situated."
I didn't even hesitate to start following him down the stairs. Surprisingly enough, this is getting better and better. Secret syndicate, assassinations, hidden passages... If I didn't know any better, I'd wanna say this was all specifically set up for me. This is my style!!
After both Zayne and Lara had followed me through the passageway, the entrance resealed itself. But instead of just leaving us in the dark, magic crystals started to light up the walls around us.
It wasn't long before we had reached the bottom of the stairs and I swear, it must be my birthday or something. We had stepped into a cozy little living room type spot. There was a couple comfy looking chairs and sofas centered around a decent sized fireplace.
Off to the left of the living room was what appeared to be a kitchen. With a quick look around I realized it was also fully stocked.
"I tried to pull out all the stops in order to make you feel more comfortable here. You've already seen the living room and the kitchen off to our left.
"If you were to take the hall directly in front of us it would lead you to each of your rooms as well as a bathroom with working plumbing and a hot shower.
But instead of walking towards our JJ rooms, he then had us follow him down the hall on the right.
"Down this way there is a training room, an armory, a fully stocked storage for materials, what I call a repair hub. It's pretty much just a big room with a full forge, an enchanters table and an alchemists lab and an oversized office for handling business."
Still walking down the hall while telling us this, he would point to each room as he named them off. Finally stopping at a door at the very end. Opening the door and stepping through, we were led into the office. And true to what he said, it was huge.
Each of us even had our own desk and work station in various spots around the room. In the center was what looked like a wooden dining table with a few small boxes sitting on it.
Walking towards the far end of the table to where the metal box was, he gestured for us to pull out a chair and sit down before continuing to talk.
"Not going to lie, with the way things are progressing, I already have a couple assignments for each of you. But first.."
At that he leaned forward and slid us each a box. When I opened it I saw a beautiful crystal bracelet.
"Those are Bound Bracelets. They are very hard to create but thankfully I have had the dwarves working on them for quite some time now. After you have bound yourselves to them they won't work for anyone else.
"On top of that, the only way to get past the barriers here are to either have your bracelet or be invited in by someone who has one. As an extra bonus I also had the dwarves add a few extra enchantments to enhance things like stealth and whatnot."
As soon as I picked it up and put it on my wrist it seemed to fuse with my skin, becoming a beautiful black and purple tattoo. Looking around I noticed that it was the same for the other two. The only difference was the tattoos center design and coloring.
Mine had turned into a sort of scythe with raven wings. Weird combo honestly. Lara's was black and blue with a center that was a sort of shadowy cross. As for Zayne, his was black and green with a center that looked to be an x made of a staff and a bow.
I could already feel the enhancements the bracelet gave me. This was some pretty high tier stuff, I'm actually kind of impressed.
After we had checked out our new tattoos/bracelets, Vicebrook slid us each another small box. Inside this one was a simple yet mesmerizing silver ring. It didn't have any gems or anything but on the inner part of the band you could see runes inscribed into it.
"Those act as two things. The first is a sort of instant teleportation spell, but it only brings you here. It's pretty much a way to instantly return when needed.
"The second is that it is also a specialized form of a spacial storage. What makes it special is not only the vast amount of room it has but the fact that you can also place living things in it without any issues. For live capture or interrogation purposes."
This keeps getting better and better huh? Being made to come here hasn't been anywhere near as bad as I had that it would be, so far anyway. But then again, in my experience when something good keeps happening, something way worse is bound to follow.
"And finally, let's get to your assignments shall we?"
