Sky's POV

I can't believe it. It can't be true. Not him..

Suddenly a loud bang came from behind me pulling me out of my thoughts. As I turned around I heard another loud bang and noticed the door move a bit. That thing was trying to get in. Looking around I noticed another door on the opposite side of the room.

Running to Alice I tried to get her on her feet but she wouldn't budge.

"Alice we have to go. We have to go now." I screamed as I managed to pull her to her feet. Trying to ignore her sobs and be the strong one, I took one last look at Jace and plowed through the second door.

As soon as we were through I turned to close the door. As I got it latched and turned back around I realized I didn't see Alice anywhere. Taking a step forward I was suddenly weightless as I plummeted down a huge hole I hadn't realized was there.

I fell for what seemed like forever until I hit the bottom hard. The impact leaving me breathless and I'm sure I broke my leg.

"Sky!..."

Looking over I saw Alice running towards me.

Alice's POV

Right after Sky pulled us through a door I found myself falling. I barely managed to use my wind magic to cushion the fall. The impact still hurt like hell. Not long after I heard someone else hit the ground.

Looking behind me I saw Sky laying on the ground struggling to breathe and her right leg was bent at a weird angle. Running over to her I hurried to try and use my light magic to heal her but for some reason it wouldn't work.

"What the fuck? Why the hell won't it work?"

"There must be some kind of anti-magic barrier down here, if you keep trying your just going to hurt yourself."

"But your leg..."

"Don't worry about it right now, we need to try and figure out where we are. Since you can walk how about looking around this room or whatever and see if you can find anything helpful."

As much as I didn't want to leave her side, she was right. Slowly getting up a looked around. We were in a small room made of stone with only a single torch giving us any light. Noticing a small bench in the corner I walked over to take a look.

On it was some kind of paperwork that didn't seem like it belonged. It wasn't caked in dust like everything else leading me to believe that it wasn't very old. As I picked it up I immediately recognized the academies symbol on the corner of the page. It seemed to be addressed to the headmaster.

I immediately put it in my pocket and kept looking around. Noticing another door I crept over to it and quietly turned the handle. Peeking through a crack it didn't seem like anything was on the other side. Just an empty hallway.

"Hey Sky, I might have found a way out. I'm gonna check it out and see if it's safe." Without waiting for a response I walked through the door and started to inch down the hallway. Suddenly I heard a loud sound almost like something heavy hitting the ground. Followed by a sickening crunching sound.

"Sky?.." I said getting no response. I rushed back through the door and stopped dead in my tracks. Right in front of me was the ugliest creature I had ever seen. It's limbs were stretched out and a sickly green color. It had a body kind of like that of a giant hairless rodent. It had no eyes or nose and had rows upon rows of jagged teeth.

And in those teeth was the lifeless body of my best friend.

"Sky...."

A tidal wave of emotions rushed over me. Pain, regret, loss and most of all, anger. Pure, red hot rage took over. I could feel my power start to swell up inside me despite the anti-magic barrier. It was overwhelming and painful but I didn't care. All I knew was that I had just lost the only two people I had in this world and it was all because of that stupid ass headmaster and this ugly ass abomination in front of me.

Someone, no, everyone is going to pay for this. Everyone is going to feel my wrath. Everyone is going to die.

As I was thinking this a bright purple flame started to circle my feet. Slowly creeping up encasing my body in its violet fury. Sensing the power surge behind it the creature suddenly turned around. As soon as it saw me it leaped forward. And all I could do was scream.

The last thing I remember is that well of power bursting out and a blinding purple light.

"Sky...Jace....I love you... Please forgive me for what I'm about to do...."
