Rose's POV
"Hey Rose!! Wait up!!"
Turning around I see my best friend Cici running over to me from across the courtyard. Right before she gets to me she seemingly trips on air and ends up face planting in the grass.
I didn't even try to hold in my laughter as I walked over to help her up. Her face was completely red as she looked around to see if anyone else had seen what happened.
I swear, for a beast kingdom she really is clumsy sometimes.
"Don't laugh, you big meanie!!" She told me while sticking her tongue out before picking up the stuff she dropped.
"Anyway, how did your exams go? Did you pass your advancement test?"
"Surprisingly, I did, yeah."
We haven't even been here half a year yet and I was already asked to take an advancement test. It's not like I'm a genius or anything, but with how things tend to be around here, I've done nothing but stay in our room studying.
It's to be expected though. Seeing as how this institute is in the Beast Kingdom, obviously everyone here is a beastkin of some kind. Everyone except me that is. I'm honestly not sure how my mom managed to get me into the institute, but I feel it's better not to ask.
Anyway, with me being the only human here it's pretty obvious what would happen. I'm constantly being looked down upon or bullied because of my difference in race. Even the teachers don't like to acknowledge me.
The only people that don't care that I'm human or treat me any different is my best friend Cici and the headmistress. Honestly, it does kinda hurt, but I do my best to ignore it. Instead of worrying about it I simply stay to myself and study.
Because of that I've managed to get a better grasp of everything and I've advanced quite a lot. So much in fact that the teachers had no other choice but let me take the advancement test to see if I was able to attend the advanced classes.
And just to rub it in their faces, I spent night after night studying until I was able to ace the test with a hundred percent. The looks on their faces after I turned in my test was completely worth it.
"What do you mean surprisingly? You already knew you were going to ace that test. I bet the looks on their faces were absolutely priceless."
"I think the examiner actually almost passed out after he graded it. He looked it over at least three times to make sure he didn't see it wrong."
"Oh man, I wish I would've seen that. You heading back to the room?"
"Yep. I wanna go write my mom and tell her I passed!"
"I'll walk with you, I wanna go crawl in my bed and die.... They made us run around the entire campus three times in p.e., I swear our gym teacher must be a demon in disguise. It's like tortures us for fun or something..."
All I could do was laugh at what she was saying. After all, I couldn't exactly tell her she was wrong, the first years gym teacher was pretty sadistic..
Anyway, I can't wait to write my mom and tell her about my advancement. Although, I'm not actually sure if she's been getting my letters or not. I haven't heard from her since we started at the institute.
There's no doubt in my mind that she'd write me back if she was able to. Maybe she's been on another job, just further away this time. It would actually make sense to not get any response if she hasn't been home to get my letters.
As I was lost in my thoughts I suddenly felt a hand on my shoulder, pulling me to a stop. When I looked back I realized that it was Cici that had grabbed me.
"Sorry, I was spacing out, what's up Cici?"
"You see that weird guy over there?"
Looking over to where she was talking about, I saw a man that was just kinda standing at the other side of the walkway. He was looking directly at us and had a creepy smile on his face.
"Wow... creepy.. Anyway, what about him?"
"I'm pretty sure I saw him in the courtyard earlier. I'm starting to think he's following us..."
Ok, that is weird. What's up with that creep. Thinking about it I don't think I've seen him around here before. But then again he is an adult and it's not like I've personally seen all the staff here. It's a really big institute after all.
Best to just try and ignore him for now. There's a couple teachers that stay in each dorm to monitor the students so we'll just head straight there in case he is following us for some reason.
"Just try and ignore him but keep and eye on him while we head to the dorms. We'll go straight to Mrs. Jensens room and tell her." I whispered to Cici as I started walking again.
At first it didn't seem like he would follow us but as we got to the dorm I caught sight of him hiding behind a pillar that holds up the Arch over the walkway.
"Come on Cici, let's hurry and get inside.."
We rushed through the door of the girls dorm and ran straight to Mrs. Jensens room. After knocking on the door for awhile with no answer it finally dawned on me. She still in her classroom around this time.
Not entirely sure what to do and not wanting to go back outside to find another teacher, we decided to wait in front of her door for her to get back. When Mrs. Jensen finally showed up, we were sitting on the floor in front of her door.
"Girls? What are you doing sitting here?"
"We needed to tell you something but we didn't want to risk going back out to find you..."
"Didn't want to risk..... Did something happen?"
After explaining what happened and describing the guy to Mrs. Jensen, she went out to try and find him. About half an hour later she came back telling us that there was absolutely nobody out there.
She ended up just saying that we were probably just tired and stressed from our classes and sent us back to our room to get some rest.
I know that guy was following us, but where did he go? Did he take off after he seen we weren't coming back out?
'Who exactly was that guy and what did he want with us?....."
Realizing the window curtain was open, I went over to close it. But as I walked up to the window I screamed and hurriedly closed the curtain.
"Rose? What happened, why did you scream?" Cici asked, walking out of the bathroom.
"That guy... He's still out there..."
Right after I said that, me and Cici crept up to the window and peeked out. The creep was just kinda standing in the dark about fifty or so feet from the dorm. But the weirdest part about it, was that even though we were on the fourth floor and haven't been in this room for long, he was standing there looking up directly at our window like he knew exactly where we were.
'What the hell is really going on?...'
