Alice's POV
I ended up just grabbing a pair of Katanas that sat in a sheath on my back. Then I decided to head out. Using spacial magic like usual I went to use my usual teleportation but realized it wouldn't work.
There was only one thing I could think of as to why I couldn't teleport. Most likely the barrier magic protecting this place also prevents anyone from being able to randomly teleport in to avoid all the other security measures.
It was honestly pretty annoying. They could have just made it so you could only teleport out not in.
'I'll have to bring this up to Vicebrook when I get the chance..'
With a deep sigh, I headed to the main room and out the door. As soon as I had made it up the stairs and into the arena I teleported to a small stretch of trees just outside of Antora. I decided that it would be pointless to just constantly walk around in my new armor.
Instead I was wearing my usual adventure gear. A complete set of light yet durable leather armor with a dragon hide cloak and a facemask that only covered the bottom half of my face, all in black of course. I did however leave the choker on. You never know when magic armor might come in handy.
Needing to get directions to the Kingdom of Benai, I started walking over to Antora. If I remember correctly, this was a pretty laid back town that constantly has adventurers coming and going. I should be able to show the guards my adventurers id and they should let me in.
Thankfully Vicebrook wasn't as incompetent as I originally thought. He had even thought to put forged IDs and plenty of coin in the storage ring. Taking out the id so I'd know who I was pretending to be, I saw that my name was put down as Jessica.
'Could be worse I suppose..'
Walking up to the two guards at the entrance and pulling down my mask, I handed one of them my id. After looking it over and handing it back he stepped aside so I could enter the town.
'Hmmm... Where should I go for directions?....'
I mean, technically I could ask anyone, hell I could've asked the guards. But I'm not one to easily rely on or trust just anybody. Even if it was simply for directions. That and not wanting to waste my time traveling, I figured finding a detailed map would be better since I could find the fastest route.
Usually people would assume that something like a detailed map would be in a library right? Yeah, you might find one with things like different routes and towns and whatnot on one. But I know for a fact that all adventurer guilds keep detailed maps that are always changing.
Other then the luxury of them always being updated they also provide a way better benefit. Due to the fact that adventurers end up having to travel damn near everywhere. They know more details about the land, the things you'll encounter there, areas to sleep or places to get water.
But best of all, which towns or whatever aren't worth going to or that will hassle you. Most adventurers may be cocky or full of themselves, but they still have their use.
Well, with that in mind, I asked someone at a food stall nearby for directions to the guild house. As soon as I did I headed straight there, weaving my way through the townspeople.
Thankfully it's not too big of a town so it didn't take long to get there. Opening the door and heading towards the receptionist, I asked how much it would cost me to get a copy of the latest detailed map to Benai.
Ten minutes and three silver later I was back on the road. Earlier I managed to get close enough to a local adventure to get into his head to get a location to teleport to. I figured the locals would have been at least somewhere closer to my destination.
Apparently the guy had actually been to the Kingdom of Benai, just about three towns away actually. So after walking back into the tree line I blinked out of there. Just to reappear outside of the town of Wentin.
It didn't take long at all to get into the town and even got a location from someone. I decided that I'd just teleport to the town right next to where I need to be and just walk in. I want to assess the place a bit.
I ended up deciding to rent a room at an inn for the night. Just to spend the night studying the map of the city and looking over the Intel on the assignment again. I want to have at least three different plans and no less than five escape routes just in case my teleportation is somehow blocked.
Once I realized that the sun was starting to rise again I threw everything back into my spacial storage and tidied up the room before heading out.
'Lets go get this over with..'
