When I wake up in the morning, I'm still drained and exhausted after the baby shower the day before. Lucky by 7pm, everyone had finally left and we had the house to ourselves again. I spent the evening laying on the sofa wearing my new fluffy dressing gown that Carol and Marc got me as Jimmy cleaned up the last few bits of wrapping paper and the last of the food from the table. I slept badly too, the cramps coming and going throughout the night. The braxton hicks were definitely worse than normal.
"How are you feeling?" Jimmy asks, rolling over and wrapping his arms around me and planting a kiss on the back of my head.
"Tired, the cramps are still going," I say to him with a yawn. He sits up slowly and I do the same, rubbing my aching stomach.
"Do you think it's anything to worry about?" He asks. I shake my head.
"Nah, it shouldn't be. I'm only 32 weeks. It'll just be braxton hicks," I say shrugging it off. Jimmy nods.
"Alright, that makes sense. I was thinking today we could sort out all of the presents downstairs and put them where they need to be and pack your hospital bag. We also need to check that we have everything we need now," Jimmy suggests and I nod, smiling.
"That sounds good to me," I confirm.
"Alright, I'm going to have a shower and put some clean clothes on. Meet you downstairs? You can go and have some breakfast whilst I get sorted," I nod in agreement at his suggestion and he gives me another gentle kiss before getting up and grabbing his clothes. I hear the bathroom door shut and let out a long yawn, stretching my arms and looking around the room as I try to find the energy to get up. Our room is a lot less open than when we moved in since it's been pretty much consumed by baby stuff now. The crib is set up and ready, an assortment of baby clothes filling the drawers below it and one of our drawers that I had cleared out for her. Inside the crib and moses basket is the baby bath along with the nappies and wipes. The corner of the room contains a shelf of fabric boxes full of all sorts of baby stuff including bath and healthcare items, small toys and other essentials. Her pram is still in the cupboard, not set up yet, and the baby bag is full and sat on the floor beside the crib too. Unopened boxes of baby bottles, a breast pump, milk storage bags and sensory toys sit in another corner. It makes me so excited to have her here with us when I see everything all set up for her. I know it's still weeks away but still, it can't come quick enough. I slowly get out of bed, not bothering to change into clean clothes just yet. Instead I head straight downstairs and sort out Summer's breakfast. Once that's done for her and she's eating, I start on my own. I grab some pre made pancakes out of the fridge and microwave them to heat them up, squirting some golden syrup over the top and pouring myself a glass of apple juice before sitting down at the table and begining to eat. I feel slightly nauseous because of the cramps but I try to push the feelings aside and make myself eat as much as I can. When I finish, I put the dishes in the sink and head into the living room where I sit myself on the floor and begin to sort through the large pile of unwrapped gifts and cards from yesterday. I start with the cards, removing the gift cards and money from them all and putting them into a pile. We have about £100 worth of gift cards and £200 worth of cash. I put all of the cards on display on the coffee table and the pile of money and gift cards beside it before moving on to the presents. First up is a china piggy bank for the baby which has a brown teddy bear with a pink bow painted on the front. I put the £200 straight into that so we can spend it on the baby once she's here and put it onto the coffee table. I begin working through the rest of the gifts, creating two piles. One for upstairs and one for downstairs. In the downstairs pile I end up putting a box containing a moses basket with a stand, a baby mat with dangling toys, a wicker basket for baby toys, a selection of different chew, sensory and squishy toys to go in the basket, a few different teddies of various animals including a golden retriever teddy which looks just like Summer, a knitted wool blanket, a bouncer, a gorgeous little wooden display piece of a mum and dad cuddling together holding their baby, some more little display figures, a brand new steriliser for bottles and dummies and a glass vase. In the upstairs pile I put a baby monitor set, a baby wrap so I can hold her close to me when we go out, a night light for the bedroom, a mobile for her cot, a boxed selection of different snacks that me and Jimmy like to go in our hospital bag, some books for both me and Jimmy, some chocolate selection boxes, a bunch of different baby clothes, mattress covers for the crib, a soft fluffy blanket, a pillow for laying with the baby in bed, a new bedsheet set for mine and Jimmy's bed and a swaddle for the baby. I manage to finish organising everything just before Jimmy gets downstairs.
