"Jimmy! You ready?" I call out, putting my shoes on. We have five minutes until we're meant to be at the house to collect the keys. Both me and Summer are ready, waiting at the door for Jimmy who's in the toilet.
"COMING!" He calls out, flushing the toilet. I hear the tap running for a minute before the bathroom door opens and he rushes over, slipping his shoes on and holding open the door. We all head to the car, quickly strapping in before driving off.
When we arrive at the house, Miriam, our landlord, is stood outside. She smiles and waves as we pull up and we do the same back. When we leave the car and walk up to her, she's holding the keys out in her hand.
"Hello lovelies! I bet you're excited, here's your keys! I'm so glad to be welcoming you to your new home! So, here you've got a nice folder containing the contract, copies of all the forms you've signed, information about the house. You've got my number on there as well as on your phones too so if you need anything, give me a message or call and I'll answer when I'm available! Any questions?" She fills us in, handing over the keys.
"No questions from me, that's all absolutely perfect! Thank you so much!" I say, Jimmy says pretty much the same.
"Oh you're welcome! Have a great rest of your day, take care!" She gives us both a firm handshake before leaving. Me and Jimmy wave her off before unlocking the door to our new house for the first time. I smile at him as we walk inside.
"We've finally got our place," I say, content. Jimmy hugs me gently.
"We do, we've come so far," He gently kisses me on the head.
"Right, let's get the bed in and start setting that up! I have the tools in the car. Once that's done, we can head back ho- I mean, to Sam and Jack's, and start moving things over," I nod in agreement. It's weird that this is suddenly our new home, after so long at Sam and Jack's. But it is, we will make it feel homely with some time and decoration. I begin to help Jimmy bring everything in though he only lets me carry the non heavy, smaller pieces. He drags everything upstairs, knowing that I won't manage that myself. Once everything is inside, we sit down on the floor of the bedroom and begin putting the bedframe together. It's a king sized bed, big enough for all three of us. Summer is laying next to me as I put a leg onto the bottom of the base. She's watching everything I do attentively. Once I've put all of the legs on, Jimmy takes over putting on the bars to lay the mattress on top of. I decide to let Summer have a run of the house and explore everything whilst he does that.
"Come on, Sum!" I call, walking downstairs. She's excited, tail wagging as I let her roam. She sniffs around the whole of the front room happily before rushing into the kitchen and doing the same there. She takes about fifteen minutes making her way around the whole house before finally running back to me with a wagging tail.
"You like it? This is our home now," I smile, crouching down to fuss her. Suddenly, I feel a sharp pain shoot across my stomach and groan, wrapping my arms around it. I sit on the floor for a moment, catching my breath. Summer looks concerned, placing her paw on my lap. She's confused, she's never seen me have something like this happen, whatever this is. I sigh, slowly standing up as the pain stops. I brush it off and head back upstairs where I see Jimmy pulling the last of the plastic off of the mattress and laying it down onto the fully assembled bed frame.
"There, finished! What does Summer think of the house?" He asks, looking up at me.
"She's had a good sniff, she seems happy with it!" I say with a smile. He nods.
"That's great! Well, shall we head back and start moving things over? Sam and Jack will be home in about four hours so we can probably get at least half of the stuff moved over before they come and help with the rest," I nod carefully as he speaks.
