Blossoms head snapped up at the sound of footsteps entering the cave. She sighed, relief washing over her. They're safe.
Buttercup dropped down on her knees beside Blossom. She placed two fingers on Bubbles pulse, then opened the girls eyes and shined a light. After about a few more tests, Buttercup determined Bubbles was alright. Just tired.
"She won't take her medicine." Blossom whispered.
"She shouldn't have to." Buttercup's eyes narrowed towards the floor.
Blossom's lips pressed into a straight line. None of them should have to do anything. But fate had decided that the three of them were strong enough to be used as lab rats and make it out alive. Blossom sighed, her hand reaching out and grabbing onto Buttercups.
"How'd it go?" She asked in regards to the stay-behind mission.
"The voice was in my head." Buttercup whispered. "She took over."
"Ah." Blossom squeezed her sisters hand. "But you're safe, right?"
"Of course I am."
"Then that's all that matters."
Blossoms attention flickered over to Brick. He was in the middle of a conversation with Butch. Though something about it seemed to be pissing the both of them off.
"What happened?" Blossom asked Buttercup.
The girls eyes widened. Fear flashed over her face. That was something Blossom rarely ever saw from her sister. Sure, the cyborg got scared. But she never really allowed herself to show it.
"Blossom, do you remember that mission a few years back with Him? His experiment on longevity and immortality?" Her voice is low and quiet, as if she's scared she'll speak too loud.
"Yeah? What about it?" Blossoms brows furrow as she looks her sister over. 'she needs a better pair of pants.'
"Him... his experiment is back on. Only this time, he's working with President Bellum."
The color drains from Blossoms face. "What..." her heartrate increases as she runs a hand over her face. "No, no, no, no, no, no. This is bad. This is very very bad."
Buttercup nodded her head in agreement. "I know. I didn't see it, but from what Butch said it sounds exactly like Him's project." The girl adjusted her position, her back resting against the caves wall. She leaned her head on Blossoms shoulder. "My thoughts weren't my own."
Blossom inhaled sharply. "BC..." she trailed off.
"I'm fine now." Buttercup informed. "Just thought you'd like to know. Incase it happens again." Her hands balled into fists in her lap.
"Buttercup, you're not a monster." Blossom sighed. For as long as she could remember, Buttercup had a problem with thinking she was a monster. A thing to be feared. Some weapon made to destroy. It took a lot of time and effort to get where she was now. And even now, she still struggled with voices that weren't her own. "You're my sister."
Buttercup sucked in a breath. She stood up, brushing herself off. "Brick." She held her head high, as if addressing a general high in ranks.
'Respect.' Blossom smiled. 'She respects him.'
Buttercup was a soldier through and through. She knew power, she knew positions, and she knew how to follow orders. However, respect was something she knew how to give out and earn. It wasn't often she showed new people this amount of approval.
Brick nodded his head at her. "I already know. Him's got his toe dipped in the same waters as our government."
"Your government." Blossom corrected. Her eyes narrowed and lips pressed into a thin line.
Brick ran a hand over his face and sighed. "Whatever, Pinky."
"Brick, we need to stop this." Buttercup said.
"You didn't even want to go on this mission." Boomer muttered. "Why should we go on another mission, only this one full of a bunch of hocus pocus?"
'Since when was he back in here?' Blossom blinked.
"Because," Buttercup frowned. "This is different. At first this was a simple case of retrieving an asset. But now? Him is working with your government! And in doing so, he's testing on humans. People who didn't sign up to be poked at and pried apart!" Her voice was dangerously close to breaking. It wavered between angry and downright hostile. "He needs to be stopped. He can't get away with ruining more lives."
The cave fell silent. This wasn't just about the potential lab rats. This was also about the girls. This was a chance to make sure what happened to them never happened to another soul again. To stop kids from being used as experiments.
"Alright." Brick nodded. "Alright, we'll stop Him. And we'll put an end to this crusade of his. We'll bring justice to our nation, and restore a government we can all count on." Brick looked over the faces surrounding him. A few hours ago they were all strangers. Now, the possibility of death seeming more apparent every second, they were family. "Get some sleep. We've got a lot of work to do tomorrow."
