"Damn it." Brick sucked in a breath. He was getting real pissed off at always running into things that wanted to kill him. Kill her.

The four were hiding in the bushes, watching the two beings stalk through the forest.

The one on the right groaned. "This is ridiculous! Brat gets to have all the fun, while we're stuck looking for slimy little snails." She crossed her arms—the top set. Her other two she shoved into her pockets.

"Knock it off." The one on the left sighed. She had demonic eyes shining with the embers of hells fire. Her skin was tinted red where the other was tinted green. Short golden horns curled around her head.

Green glowing irises with pits of darkness surrounding them.

Blossom placed a protecting hand infront of Bell. Who, in turn, grabbed on to Blossoms arm.

Blake's eyes narrowed at the two. "They appear to be the guys Buttercup spoke of." He whispered.

"Yeah, but they're missing one," Blossom noted. "Any word from Boomer?" She asked Brick.

In response, he shook his head.

"Can we head back, now?" Four-arms questioned.

"Keep asking questions and I'll make sure you never get to—" She broke off. Holding out a hand to stop four-arms. "Brute, did you hear something?"

The other looked around. Long curved ears twitching as if to try and pick up a sound. "Breathing."

"Yes." The first grinned. She turned slowly in a circle, until she was facing the direction the four were hiding.

She took a few steps forward, crouching down so she was eye level with the bush. "Hello there."

"You lost Boomer?" Butch snorted.

"I did not!" Bubbles ran a hand through her hair. "I didn't..."

They'd looked through every room on the top floor already. Nobody was here. Everyone had left. Evacuated. Disappeared.

The house felt cold.

The atmosphere suffocating.

Bubbles heart ached. Felt like it'd been doing that a lot recently. "I didn't."

"Relax, blondie." Butch sighed. "He's around here somewhere."

"Dead or alive." Buttercup muttered. "Probably being tortured." She kept a hand glued to the wall as she walked. She'd tried looking for heat signatures but nothing was showing up. There's something in the walls...

"Oh god. What if he is dead?" Bubbles gasped.

"Better not be." Butch scrunched up his nose. "I'd like to think Buttercup 'N I taught him better than that."

They were on the main floor now. Checking through doors with caution. Who knew what they'd find.

And then there was a scream from down below.

An ear-piercing, heart breaking, scream.

Bubbles's eyes widened. "Boomer." She took off down the basement stairs before Buttercup or Butch could protest.

The hair on the back of her neck stood up as she came near the single door at the base of the stairs. Another cry of pain rang out from behind the oak door.

Anger. Pure, raw, fire-fueled anger danced behind her eyes. They say that the hottest fired burned blue, and her eyes were no exception.

She threw the door open, frantically scanning the room. A single lamp is lit in the center. Beside it rests a tape recording. It clicks on, and then another scream fills the empty, humid room. Fractured walls, a thick layer of dust over the floor. There's a chair beside the lamp. Fresh blood splattering the floor.

"No." Bubble's eyes widen. "NO!" She runs into the room, throwing over the chair as she spins in circle after circle.

Buttercup and Butch enter the room. "Bubbl──" Buttercup cut off by Bubbles shaking her head.

"He was here! I can feel it. He was here." She collapses to the ground. Her hand reaching for the tape recording as her eyes well with tears.

The tape screeches. Pauses. It catches everyone off guard, even Bubbles who nearly drops it.

"Hello little birds." The voice is pitchy.

"Brat." Buttercup and Butch say at the same time. Disdain coating the word.

"I'm hoping the little blonde one is here. I have a little game for you."

Bubble's eyes widen. Buttercup sits down across from her sister, frowning at the device. "Bloods fresh." She says, looking at the puddle besides Bubbles. "Little weasel must've just left."

"You can only save one."

"No..." Bubbles gasps.

"I'm watching you, little bird. You get one. The professor?──" The girl breaks off as a guys voice rings out.

"HEY! BUBBLY!"

"Boomer!" Bubbles shouts back, as if he could hear her.

"Shut up B──" She's cut off again.

"BUBBLY LISTEN! I'M FINE! I──"

"Damn it, I said shut up!" There's a shout of pain. Followed by silence.

"BOOMER!"

"You have until dusk to find them. Both are in different spots. You get one. You'll only have time to save one. You've already lost the cyborg freak and green-eyed idiot. Do you really want to loose the Professor too? Or do you want to loose you little boy-toy? Tik tok." The audio cuts out. Haunting quiet fills the room.

It's suffocating.

It wraps around her throat and gouges out her eyes.

No. No. No. It's not true. It can't be true. She can save them both.

Right?

Tears fell down her cheeks. Mixing with the puddles of blood.

Her broke heart, his broken soul.

This wasn't right.

This wasn't supposed to happen.

Two souls don't find eachother by simple accident.

Not these two anyways.

Everything was falling apart faster than she could pick up the pieces and put them back together.

It can't be too late... can it?

No. No, it isn't.

It couldn't be.

Bubbles wiped at the tears that stained her face. Her shoulders shook as the panic began to set in more. "He can't be gone."

"He's not." Buttercup declared.

"I can't choose." She sniffled, clutching a hand over her heart.

"You don't have to."

"I already had to choose. You or Blossom. It's not fair. It's not fair!"

"Hey, shhh, shhhh." Buttercup reached out, wrapping Bubbles in a hug. "You don't have to choose."

"I can't... I can't loose him. I love the professor, but I can't... I can't loose him." She buried her face into her sisters neck.

"You won't." Buttercup said quietly. "You won't loose either of 'em."

"How can you be so... so sure?"

"Because." Butch crouched down. "Brat thinks Butters 'N I are dead." He grinned.
