"President Bellum, we've lost contact."
Those were the words Sarah hated to hear. Her lip curled up into a scowl as she slammed her book shut. "What?"
"We—uhh... w-we think—" The guy was young. Quirky. A geek. He reminded Sarah of Boomer in a way. Only this guy was less confident in his ability to speak, and definitely didn't posses any sort of anger issues.
"Get on with it, Believe." Sarah's eyes narrowed.
Mike adjusted his glasses. "S-sorry, ma'am. But it appears that Buttercup had d-dropped off the... off the radar. We were unable to perform... to perform a complete trace."
Sarah groaned, sinking down into her chair. "Get me Him."
Mikes eyes widened. "O-of course, Miss." He scurried out the room like a mouse running away from a cat.
Sarah swiveled her chair around to face out the window. Those six—no, eight now—were like cockroaches. Hiding behind who knows what, hard to kill, and a solid pain in the ass. How hard was it to smoke out a few children? They were hardly even old enough to be considered adults. Twenty? Bah!
They were too smart for their own good, however. Sarah had expected them to figure out they could be traced, but not this fast. Which means Buttercup had been watching the news. Which meant they were planning something.
Sarah coiled her hair around her finger as she thought.
Suddenly, an idea struck her.
There was, in fact, one person who could bring the girls out of hiding.
In turn leading to the guys—and the two rats (Bell and Blake if those were their names) they'd stolen from Quapla—demise.
Sarah run around and dialed the number of her secretary. "Yes Miss President?"
"Princess, would you be a doll and have Professor Utonioim escorted to my safe house Apricity?" Sarah smirked.
"Right away Miss President!" The line cut off.
"Perfect." Sarah leaned back in her chair. "They thought they could outsmart me? Hah!" She stood up and walked over to put her book back on the shelf. "I am a master at chess my little angels," she said. "I will always be one step ahead of you."
"Monologuing had always been my thing."
The voice sent chills down her spine. It made her skin crawl when she turned around and saw Him standing there.
Even after all his body modifications to look less human, he was still a very attractive man. Eyes stained black, teeth filed sharp. When he grinned dimples appeared at the edges of his mouth. His plain black shirt was left unbuttoned on the top. His dark, blood-red jacket was missing a button at the bottom.
As he checks his watch, dark black strands of hair fall over his thin, menacing face. "You wanted to have a conversation, doll?"
His voice was deep. It had a demonic twist to it, even.
Sarah leaned back, resting her hands on a shelf. "Hello," she grinned.
"I heard you were calling in Professor Utonium?" Him arched an eyebrow. "Splendid idea."
"I thought as much. If he disappears then the girls would have to leave their silly little hole their hiding in." Sarah pushed off the shelf and walked towards her desk. "But that isn't why I've asked to talk with you."
"Oh?" He sat down across from her.
"I have a proposal for some of your... monsters."
"My failed experiments?" Him leaned back, kicking his feet up onto the desk. "You have my attention."
Sarah smirked. "Good."
