Pairing: Demon! Dream Sans x Summoner! Female Reader
Prompt: What if the (Y/n) in my book Her Guardian was the author? Aka you take the POV of me but this time it's also set in the demonic universe I created for the book.
Type: ranty, hurt/comfort
Length: 6.3k words
Background: It'll be helpful to have read Her Guardian since I include concepts like demons, summoners, and the mental link between summoner and Demon King (meaning they can hear each other's thoughts). Otherwise if you've read His Summoner then you're not gonna be completely lost.
Notes: I figured since I wrote one for Nightmare, I might as well do the same for Dream. It's my way of subtly breaking the 4th wall and giving you an insight into my mind and how I do things, as well as giving y'all some life lessons from your mamá. What you choose to take away from my stories is up to you, but at the very least I'm trying to give you a fresh perspective through which to see the world.~-~-~-~
Dream wandered the house looking for his human summoner. You'd think she'd be easy to find considering they had a mental link, but you'd be wrong. The house felt like a mansion but that was only because it was so empty without the other Star Sanses here. He'd gotten lost a couple times already in the house, and he had to mentally describe his location to (Y/n) so she could come find him. The sight of her rolling her eyes as she took his hand to lead him back to a familiar part of the house made him smile right as he finally found her.
She was in her room - shocker, I'm sure - with her laptop open to a word document. He walked up behind her to see what she was working on, and at spotting his name in her writing, he leaned back. "How's the story coming along, human?" He expected her to jump in surprise at his silent appearance behind her, but instead she just shrugged. That's when he got concerned. He noticed her lack of positive emotions - which is why he struggled to find her in the first place - but assumed it was just because she was so engrossed in a scene she was writing. She tended to get so wrapped up in her writing that she felt the emotions of the characters, and he admired that about her. He wasn't entirely sure himself how she did that, they were only words on a page after all, but as a reader himself - and editor for her - he supposed it made sense that she would be able to feel her characters' emotions so deeply because they weren't just fictional characters.
"What's wrong, (Y/n)?" Dream asked softly, gently setting a hand on her shoulder. (Y/n) shrugged again, her eyes glued to the screen but it was like she was looking right through it. "It's helpful to talk about your emotions, therapeutic even." He gently squeezed her shoulder, mentally imploring her to talk. While he'd gotten decisively better at reading her due to their mental link, he wasn't exactly sure what was going on in her head.
"It's hard to talk about it when I don't even know how to put it into words," she mumbled, resting her forehead on her palms and sighing heavily. No wonder he couldn't figure it out.
"I'll listen if you wish to explain as best you can." His smile was warm and inviting, and she pushed off her desk to spin her chair around to face him. He clasped his hands and sat on her bed, crossing one leg over the other as he faced her, giving her his full attention.
(Y/n) thought for a moment, and he could practically see her mentally rearranging her thoughts into decipherable chunks. He waited patiently, and eventually she opened her mouth. "I'm stressed, obviously..." She paused, again trying to decode her thoughts as best she could. He could feel her stress, which was an emotional constant since she'd started writing her latest story and even before. "I want the best story I can possibly come up with for my readers since I care about them and I like interacting with them - even if deep down I'm aware the original story concept was specifically tailored for Nightmare and not you, meaning the entire demon concept fundamentally doesn't work with your character because you're closer to an angel than a demon. Like, I'm making it work as best I can and I think I'm doing alright, but I can't shake the feeling that it shouldn't exist." She sighed, clearly venting frustration despite her plan to finish the story in its entirety. "And apparently I give off the impression that I'm better than my readers? And they say they'll read anything even if it's not good, but I don't want to give them crap, you know?" She let out a soft huff and ran a hand through her hair. "I'm not any better than them, but I'm starting to worry that I'm arrogant and look down on others even if I don't intend to. Do I give off that impression?" She finally looked up at Dream, and he gave his answer a moment of thought.
