Pairing: DreamtaleSwap Dream Sans x Female Reader
Prompt: As the newest recruit of the Meme Squad, you're assigned as decoy - a job you do slightly too well, but only after you get caught.
Type: smut
Length: 9k words
Background: You want the rundown as I know it on DreamSwap? I got you: basically it's SwapDream but the characters are altered - like not even being skeletons anymore, they're apparently humans in this (but they have skeleton forms? Idk bro). Their personalities are different (Dream has a semblance of reason, Nightmare isn't just depressed, etc) and so is their lore. The Tree is still a thing but this time it's in a temple and the boys were chosen to protect it after the priest watching over it died and the temple fathers tried to attack it. Still with me? No? That's ok, that's not relevant anyways.
Dream - in a quest to make the multiverse a better place by doing the 'right thing' - creates Justice Reigns, which is basically the multiversal police to eradicate negativity, and employs help from Ink (who abandoned Cross to become his right hand after the destruction of XTale, which is where Dream found the pair and offered Ink a job). Ink was basically a government project growing up and his backstory kinda reminds me of the Winter Soldier (having foreign codewords for his vials, which aren't emotions but electroshock mechanisms that make him act a certain way while forgetting what's happening and erasing his self-awareness).
Opposing Justice Reigns is the Meme Squad, which includes Nightmare, Cross, and Error. Like you'd expect, they get up to shenanigans (pranks, specifically) as JR tries to hunt them down - and if it wasn't obvious already, this AU is a joke in comparison to Swap/Dreamtale. Nightmare has a pet chicken Kevin and apparently used to like Dream... (I'll take this slightly awkward moment to mention they're not brothers in this AU - thank God). Cross came from an AU rewritten by Gaster into every genre under the sun until the characters revolted and destroyed the whole XTale AU in the process. He's impulsive, theatrical, and has a theft problem - which includes but isn't limited to: stealing code from random AUs. Error has a traumatic past he can't remember (which gave him his haphephobia) as well as past experience with Blue (at one point they lived under the same roof - very poorly lmao) and he's more interested in peace between JR + MS than destruction.
Blue (Swaptale Sans, tho apparently his name is Blue in this AU so he'll be referred to as such) is on neither side - he dislikes fighting and violence - but he does favor JR because he wants to see those who hurt others brought to justice while he's content to watch from the sidelines (this possibly stems from his experience with a physically abusive older brother). His universe imploded after a coding glitch, and he ended up in the anti-void to become a glitch himself.
There's also a number of regular human characters, but for the sake of simplicity, they won't be included.
The story is open-ended with various possible endings, and the canon storyline is pretty much nonexistent, basically making this a concept with a good premise but nothing more.
Notes: Yes there is a difference between DreamSwap and SwapDream. Confused yet? Then don't think about the fact that there's a DreamSwap Dream and SwapDream Dream, as well as a DreamSwap Nightmare and SwapDream Nightmare too. | I'm very sorry this note is so long 😭 I was trying to practice writing in present tense for this one so that's why it reads differently 👍

My glare does nothing to placate the man in front of me, but it doesn't seem to irk him as much as I'm hoping for – not that I expected any less. This was the leader of Justice Reigns, the goodie two-shoes of the multiverse self-appointed to keep it in line and filled to the brim with positivity, and Dream Von Licht was about as high-strung as they came. His positive aura is almost nauseating after spending so long around his shadow Nightmare, but I bite back the bile rising in my throat and instead use it to pour more anger into the indignant look etched onto my face.

Dream heaves a sigh, running a hand through his golden locks as he sends me a very unimpressed look. I'm sure my negativity is nothing more than a ripple in the ocean of his positivity, but despite his efforts to soothe me with his feel-good aura, I don't budge. "You are not aiding your cause, mortal." He stands above me, posture ramrod straight and voice high and mighty like he alone is always right, but all it gets from me is a roll of my eyes.
