Pairing: Error Sans x Reader
Prompt: Your AU is on the brink of collapse and Error comes to finish the job. You weren't aware it was 'bring your child to work' day, and he can't comprehend why you seem so welcoming of the one that's going to kill you.
Type: dark, existential crisis on full blast w/fluff to lighten it
Length: 7.1k words
Background: PaperJam and Gradient are Error and Ink's children, created by accident with Error's leftover strings and Ink's paint (a.k.a. not the old-fashioned way). I'll put a pic down below just so you know who I'm talking about.
Notes: I don't know much about PJ or Gradient so I used their Wikis (which I know are sometimes very inaccurate), so apologies if they're not how you know them. I'll take any knowledge y'all got. | I've been trying to come up with story ideas for Error since I wanna make a full-length Error x Reader, and this one had potential but I think I'd only be able to turn it into a short story at most. So when you get a ton of Error content, don't be surprised - I'm still trying to come up with the perfect plot and I'm getting ideas along the way (like this one-shot for example lol).

Error was known as the Destroyer of AUs, the very harbinger of it and everyone inside its demise, so what he didn't expect when he came to a dying AU was you. You'd known the end was coming - you'd heard stories of Error and you saw the world around you breaking - so you greeted him with a smile. "Hey," you said, approaching with your hands clasped in front of you. "It's been a long time since I've seen a new face." His sockets narrowed as the strings around his fingers tightened, but you didn't move to attack him and that shocked him just enough to hesitate. You were the human of this AU and the only one left that could prevent him from achieving his goal, yet you weren't fighting like every other Frisk or Chara. "Are you here to destroy our AU?"

"Its code is breaking apart so I'm doing you a service," he snapped coldly, unwilling to let his guard down.

Your smile remained unnaturally warm considering the situation. "I agree. It's not what it used to be." You looked around at the half-finished Snowdin, half of its residents already lost code with the unlucky few that remained knowing just how soon they could follow. But it never came, like half of the AU was ripped apart while the remaining half persisted on life support, leaving you and the others to wait to see your old friends again when your time finally came. "If you'd come not that long ago, we probably would've put up more of a fight." You laughed softly, but it lacked any mirth. "But now I guess we couldn't wait for you to show up."

Error blinked, shifting uneasily. Your behavior was odd, and he'd never once met someone happy about their very universe being destroyed. "What are you hoping to accomplish, anomaly?" he asked, the chill in his tone still there as he did his best to hide the confusion threatening to seep into it.

"Just telling you we appreciate you." Your sad eyes focused back on him, your smile trembling for just a moment. His suspicion hadn't changed, but now amidst the distrust was puzzlement. He wanted to be wary of you but somehow you didn't strike him as a threat - not that you could hurt him anyway - and the intrigue behind your oddity only drove him to figure you out before he ripped apart your code. "If there's anything I can do to help, let me know."
