Pairing: Megalosomnia AU/Baggs Sans x Reader
Prompt: All humans are to be treated as friends and brought to the head royal scientist, but you don't plan on staying, dead-set on getting to the barrier to leave the underground. Unfortunately for you, Baggs is in need of an assistant, so trapped under his spell, you learn the only way to outlast his thrall is to persevere.
Type: short story "condensed" into a one-shot, manipulative Baggs, a better ending than he deserves
Length: 10.6k words
Background: Since, again, this is a little-known AU, here's the rundown: Sans experiments with human SOUL magic since bro's a royal scientist, but since determination (the strongest SOUL trait) makes monsters melt, he decides to use perseverance instead and injects a little bit into himself. Long story short he gets psychosis powers - essentially able to control people by talking & looking them in the eyes to put them under his spell. He's called Baggs because of the bags under his eyes (he can't sleep anymore), he created Flowey by injecting a flower with determination, and scarred by Flowey resetting the timeline to kill them all over and over using said determination, he imprisons Frisk in his lab before they can escape along with Flowey until he can figure out how determination magic works. (Frisk is injured from their fight with Asgore so they're knocked down to 1 HP by Baggs, effectively putting them out of commission so they can't use their SAVE/LOAD/RESET powers that Baggs fears.) Papyrus is knighted as General of the Royal Guard, and with Baggs' influence over Asgore (and the rest of the underground), he basically runs the underground without anyone knowing (OP much?).
- I'll put a link to the Tumblr page that breaks it down in many, many more words in the comments -
Notes: Yeah that's a lot^, I know 😅 I'll walk you through it as we go, explaining everything throughout the one-shot like you've never heard of this AU/didn't read the Tumblr (tho I'd recommend that). I moved the True Lab from Hotland to the city since I think that's where Baggs would better keep his control of Asgore and it would be more convenient/make more sense. For your troubles (and this giant block of text), here's a picture of General Papyrus:
