Type: comfort, wholesome holiday fluff
Length: 3.1k words
Background: Monsters are on the surface and have been for almost a year, and even if Horror would never fully get over what happened to him, I still think he's capable of moving on in a sense - just like anybody can despite their trauma.
Notes: I wrote this on the dawn of Christmas as a gift for y'all, so Merry Christmas babies! <3 | Requested by Luna_Sunstone who just needed some comfort and loves Horror (but don't we all).

With the holidays here, you found yourself going from one family Christmas function to the next without much break, socializing until your social battery had run dry hours before, only to do it again the next day. You loved your family, and getting to spend time with them during this magical time of year was fun—if taxing. The only problem with seeing them again after all this time was all of your aunts, uncles, and grandparents asked what you'd been up to and what you'd accomplished with your life since they last saw you.

It wasn't that you were a complete failure or anything, but there's only so many times you can see the disappointment in your family's eyes before it starts to drain your self-esteem. Everyone in your immediate family was successful in one way or another, and as such, your extended family expected the same of you. But you weren't a doctor, or an FBI agent, or a NASA engineer, and even if they shouldn't have expected such grandiose success from you, you still let them down by not fulfilling those great expectations. You were a failure in their eyes.

So when you finally got a break from the family gatherings, you found yourself in front of Sans' door. Monsters had finally made it above ground, and despite all of the problems that created for society, the monsters themselves were just happy not to be starving anymore. Sans and Papyrus had moved in next door, and you'd made fast friends with them due to their odd nature. The thought made you squirm as you waited for one of the skeletons to open the door, swearing you felt eyes on the back of your head. Your parents had made it clear what they thought of your 'friends', and you could've sworn you heard your sibling comment that you were such a freak that you couldn't get human friends.

The thoughts faded to the background as Sans opened the door, his smile eerily wide and giant crack in his skull only making the glow around him from the lights inside the house that much more haunting. "Heya buttercup," Sans said, his ever present grin widening unnaturally. You tried to smile, but something must've shown on your face because the skeleton's head jerked to the side like his neck was broken. "Something eating at you?"

"It's nothing," you mumbled, avoiding his gaze. He saw through you easily, but since you clearly didn't want to talk about it, he pulled the door open wider and craned his head back as if inviting you inside. You stepped in, the warmth inviting compared to the cold outside, the feeling of being judged falling off your shoulders as you tried to pretend everything was fine. "Merry Christmas."

"Merry Christmas, kiddo." His skeletal hand mussed your hair affectionately, watching your eyes come to life if only for a moment. "You get everything you wanted this year?" He led you towards the living room, passing through the kitchen where the smell of fresh baked sugar cookies hung in the air. You paused for a moment to gape at the sheer number of sweet treats decorating the island counter. Sans noticed your attention shift and let out a deep chuckle. "Paps said he wanted to make sure Santa got all the cookies he could eat because we couldn't give him any the past 7 years." The thought was equal parts sad and heartwarming,
