Notes: This was requested by the lovely cocoabits who loves Dream, but who doesn't? | Parasomnia is any sleep disorder that disrupts sleep (like night terrors, sleeping walking/talking, etc), but more specifically yours is Nightmare Disorder - disturbing/scary dreams (nightmares) that wake you up and cause distress or prevent adequate sleep.

(Y/n) awoke in a cold sweat, her eyes wide and frantic as she looked around her room. She was alone like she logically knew she would be, but the dream- no, nightmare she had was still fresh in her mind. A shiver traveled up her spine as she quickly slipped from her bed and left her room, wandering the Star Sanses base for Dream. Since she was their friend, she stayed over often - although she did it mostly to help with her parasomnia.

A minute later she was standing in front of Dream's door, and she knocked lightly before cracking the door. Dream looked up at her arrival. "(Y/n)?" He was lying on his back on his bed, but at the door opening, he sat up so the blankets slid down his chest to his lap.

"Hey Dream," she mumbled, embarrassment dripping from her tone despite how often she visited him at night. "I'm surprised you're awake." She slipped into the room and shut the door quietly behind her, shrouding the room in darkness save for the glow of Dream's golden eyelights. They avoided her gaze as she walked over to him.

"It's not important. Did you have another nightmare?" He shifted over on his bed so she could slide in beside him. She took the offer like she did every night, bunching the blanket up in her hands as she nodded. He sighed tiredly but offered a hug, and she immediately wrapped her arms around him. "I'm sorry Nightmare won't leave you alone."

"It's fine." She wasn't quite sure it was Nightmare to begin with since they started long before she met Dream. The doctor called it Nightmare Disorder - which she wasn't aware was a thing but it fit the bill perfectly. It was characterized by nightmares every night, making sleep difficult to get due to how often she woke up shaking with fear from what she'd seen. The thing about dreams: you only remember them when you wake up in the middle of them, so if she simply slept through her nightmares, it probably wouldn't be so bad. But she woke up every night, plagued with remembering exactly what happened, and such a spike in negativity was probably great fun for the Negativity King considering he knew how close to the Stars she was - Dream in particular.

Dream held her close, his gaze unfocused as he calmed (Y/n) down with his positivity. Her trembling slowly ceased and she relaxed in his arms as they laid down together, her cuddling closer to him. He felt his heart jump like it did every night when she was this close to him, and he gave her a small smile she could barely see. "Are you feeling better?"

"Yeah." Her smile glowed from the light of his eyes, and he was glad she couldn't see how golden his cheekbones became. "I'm glad I have you. Honestly I don't know what I'd do without you." Her tone was light, but something about how she said it made him stiffen.

"What do you mean?"

"Your positivity. I mean, it's kinda ironic Dream is helping me with my nightmares, but I guess that's just what you do: you make me feel better."

His eyelights ducked down as he quickly held her closer so she couldn't see his expression. "My positive aura is what you like?" The words almost came out strained.
