Pairing: XTale/Cross Sans x Female Reader
Prompt: Cross was trained how to handle hostility as a Royal Guard, but when he has to deal with a bratty attitude for days on end, he's liable to snap.
Type: smut
Length: 4.1k words
Background: You're from XTale with Cross (though your specific role and relationship with Cross during that time isn't fleshed out), and there are plenty of references to XTale throughout. It'd be good if you know his lore or some of the references will be confusing, but it's vital you know his goal in Underverse season 1 was to rebuild his AU by stealing code from other AUs using his hack knife with Nightmare's help. This story deviates from what canonically happened (namely Nightmare hasn't helped him yet and everyone in his AU is gone - including XGaster and XChara).
Notes: So I proposed a question to my readers, namely 'What would push a sweetheart like Cross to lose his cool and fuck the shit out of you?' since I normally write him so sweet in my smut-shots. One of my readers answered it with a request, so here we are. I had a good idea when I asked - one I already wrote - but I doubt y'all mind a similar concept when the execution is different 🤭

Cross rolled his shoulders, the ache in them the only residual sign of the mission he just came back from – other than the chaos he sowed for the Boss in the AU. He wasn't getting any closer to rebuilding XTale but Nightmare promised him he'd get the chance if he proved his loyalty to the being of pure negativity. Cross wasn't sure how much longer he had to prove himself before he could finally start gathering code, but at least until then, he had (Y/n).

(Y/n) was the only thing he had left from his AU, everything else destroyed along with XGaster, and while he knew deep down that was a good thing after all Gaster put him and the others through, he still found himself wondering if the sacrifice was worth it as he sat alone for days on end after killing XFrisk and XChara. Ink was the reason he was pulled from his depressive, lonely slump and the reason he went back to the remnants of his AU when the artistic skeleton mentioned there was someone still there. Cross almost started crying when he spotted (Y/n) wandering aimlessly, and he'd refused to leave her side for the next week. They'd always been close, even before they started dating, so she came with him when Nightmare offered a tit for tat deal.

The rest was history, and at the thought of seeing his favorite person again after so long, his weary bones relaxed like he was soaking in a steamy bath. The feeling washed away when he heard shouting up ahead, and instantly on guard, the Royal Guard drew his hack knife and approached carefully. It seemed to be coming from the training room, and he instantly discerned (Y/n)'s raised voice. He didn't think twice before stepping inside, prepared to defend her.

Killer was standing next to Dust – who was customarily quiet with the ghost of a smirk on his teeth – and the more boisterous minion was pointing at (Y/n) with his knife, a demeaning grin on his teeth. "You know you're supposed to hit the targets, right?" Dust's subtle smirk widened as (Y/n) glared at the pair of them.

"Oh, is that so?" She flipped a throwable dagger into her hand, holding it by the blade as she eyed the target soul over Killer's chest.

Killer didn't even bat an eye, instead laughing so obnoxiously that he nearly fell into Dust. "You think you can hit it?" His lack of fear only pissed the girl off more and she chucked the dagger at him, missing by a foot. That put Killer in stitches, and he was forced to cling to Dust to stay upright as the silent minion only chuckled under his breath.

(Y/n)'s hands shook in rage, but before she could snatch another dagger from the pile, Cross pulled her into his arms and whispered, "It's not worth it, princess."

Her angry glare swung up to him. "Let go," she snapped, yanking herself free from him so she could snatch a dagger and flip it into her hand. "Stand still, Killer. We'll see who's laughing when I-"
