Purgatorio

In Italian, this means purgatory. It can be referred to as a place, condition, or process of purification of the souls. When a person dies, they get a chance to find a place in Heaven (Paradise) by purging themselves of their remaining sins and any other attachment to the pleasures derived from the same. This is believed to be the place that judges whether a person deserves the Paradise or what lies below everything.

But in this book, what is Purgatorio?

"Atlas Schreiber was deemed as 'The Navigator'. He was called that way because of his expertise during the revolution in navigating in the shadows. Some even call him the man behind the victory of the Triad against their unified former kings." Starts Bonten's boss who is munching on his dorayaki. "Of course, Triad isn't a one-man army. Atlas was a genius tactician but he wasn't the only one who won, but three of them. There is definitely more to their war that meets the eye. But we'll get to that some other time."

"As much as I am more and more curious of what the Triad is all about since we keep on dealing with them, I think we should focus on the topic we have at hand. Just who and what is Purgatorio, Mikey?" Koko asks their boss who swallowed what he's eating first before responding.

"Purgatorio has two sides. One on the surface—the House of Schreiber, one of the top ten wealthiest families and companies in Germany. They own one of the largest mining corporations where the continent find abundant gold mines. From what I heard; they also own hectares of lands and properties in provinces. Basically, their wealth is no joke and their net income is tenfold of what Bonten gets."

The subordinates all didn't respond. It is all because they remember that one Zodiac underling who told them that the Schreibers shit gold. He wasn't kidding. The Schreibers literally mine gold in their backyard. Too bad they weren't able to milk more information from the guy because one of their kind members, Rindou, went ahead and chopped his head like some firewood.

"And there's beneath the surface—Purgatorio. The topmost underground organization in their country and an expert in designing explosive devices that they sell to different countries.  Many top organizations all over the globe fear them and they call 'em, 'Germany's Untouchable Kingdom'. No one truly like to mess with them."

"Unlike Paradiso who worked with politicians and started beef with us, Purgatorio does not like standing out. They prefer being in the background, growing more and more riches, and rising in power in the shadows."

All the members...could all only look at their boss who is talking about what he knows ever since they left Japan. They all similarly couldn't believe that what he knew about the Schreibers and Purgatorio would be so much more than they do.

"Where...did you learn about all these, Mikey?" Takeomi asks.

"From my informants. I also like to dive deeper into interesting organization just like you and Kokonoi. When their war against the European association was just concluded, Bonten was hired to kill left and right. We were paid to kill the top brasses who went into hiding." Mikey suddenly chuckles. "Thinking back, I think the Triad actually owe us a thing or two since we did them tons of favor. I think that's also part of the reasons why Purgatorio accepted my invitation to form an alliance."

"I do hope you brought all of us to explore Europe with you, Mikey." Commented Ran with a snicker. Which was supported by Kakucho.

"That's right. If you did, maybe we would have prevented Sanzu from killing Ira Poderoso's father, and we wouldn't have wasted our time against Paradiso." This solicited Sanzu's middle finger to salute towards the Third's direction who returned it gladly.
