"Psst," Jisung whispers, nudging my shoulder. "You sleeping?"
"No."
We're on the blanket, still. It's late, maybe too late considering it's already Tuesday and I have work. Work I can't ditch.
But that's a problem for later. The only concern right now is probably the fact that the sunrise is in one hour and I'm freezing already.
I instinctively move closer, seeking warmth.
"Do you really not like me?"
"Look, a shooting star." I say quickly.
"That's an airplane, shithead."
He sighs, sitting up and looking down at me. Although I can't see the beautiful sky, I can perfectly see Jisung's beautiful face.
It makes up for it.
My eyes follow his features: first the eyes I just love staring into, then the nose that looks sculptured by a God, and finally his slightly bitten lips.
For some reason, I don't look away.
"Answer my question. Why are you avoiding it?"
The tension is high even though it has the freedom to fly away in the polluted air of my neighbourhood.
"Why do you like me so much?"
"I've told you a hundred times already," he sighs, laying back down beside me, a little too close. "you're just.. the only person that ever cared about me."
"Yeah, but–"
"Let me finish."
Nodding, I let him talk, listening attentively.
"You don't love me, but the way you hold me makes me feel loved. I never knew what love was before someone told me. And once she did, I started looking for true love.
And somehow I was able to find you, at the beach. That was an eventful night for me. The fourth of July is.."
"A horrible day. I know." I finish the sentence for him.
"It's- mhm."
Sighing, I sneak my arm around his shoulders and bring him closer, and closer, and closer, until our sides touch. I've grown to like the heat he provides especially on cold nights, days.
"You're like," I pause, turning my head to the side just to lock eyes with him. He mimics. "an angel sent from heaven."
He snorts. "and you're a devil from hell."
"How did the angel fall for the devil, then?"
"The same way Sun fell for Moon."
My brain shuts down, thinking deeply about his wording. I gotta admit— he's clever.
