The modest cabin they discovered on the outskirts of the town became their temporary home. It was a humble, secluded place nestled among tall trees and surrounded by the peaceful sounds of nature.
As Ryujin and Yeji approached the cabin, they couldn't help but feel a sense of relief. It had been two weeks since they arrived in this area, and they had been cautious in their exploration, making sure it was safe to settle for a while. The cabin appeared to be abandoned, with no sign of recent occupancy.
Ryujin grasped the cabin's rusty doorknob and turned it cautiously. The door creaked open, revealing a simple interior with dusty furniture and a fireplace. It was clear that no one had been here for a long time.
After a thorough inspection, they determined that the cabin was safe enough to stay for a while. Ryujin kindled a fire in the fireplace, bringing much-needed warmth to the room as Yeji began to unpack their supplies, setting them on a rickety wooden table.
It was a cold day. The dark-haired woman decided to clean out her car, it was due for a thorough clean as the mats began to accumulate crumbs and dirt. Meanwhile, Yeji was in the cabin, taking the time to do a thorough search through all the closets and wardrobes, finding articles of clothing that the previous owners had left behind.
While she was scouring through a closet in the master bedroom, she came across a sweater. Holding up, she carefully examined it, noting its clean and well-preserved condition. Looking around her, the creaking floorboards beneath her feet and the distant crackling of the fireplace, her mind wandered to the realm of what-ifs.
Yeji envisioned an untouched world, one where the fabric of society hadn't unravelled. In this alternate universe, she pondered on the possibility of residing in this same cabin in the woods, the unspoiled surroundings and the peace of nature rather than the remnants of a broken world.
Imagining a life untouched by the chaos, living in this humble abode, she wondered if there would be a companion to appreciate the beauty of this world. Someone with whom she could share stories, to lean on, to hold close, and ultimately, to love.
Snapping out of her thoughts, Yeji shifted her focus to the soft fabric in her hands.
"This would suit her," she mused.
A small smile curved on Yeji's lips as she approached Ryujin, who was outside using a dustpan to clean the cabin's interior.
"Ryu-"
Startled by the unexpected interruption, the younger woman bumped her head on the car roof, releasing a string of expletives that took Yeji off guard. As Ryujin emerged from the car, rubbing the back of her head with a slight wince, Yeji found herself momentarily stunned.
Ryujin was wearing a tight-fitting shirt, the sleeves ending right above her biceps, revealing her toned muscles and the floral fine-line tattoos covering her defined forearms. Her dark hair was chopped in messy layers, the ends just barely touching her sharp collarbones.
"Yes?" Ryujin asked inquisitively through her teeth, still slightly irritated by the faint throbbing pain in her head.
The older quickly snapped out of her daze and began to ramble, "Well, I was going through the closet, then I found this sweater. Since it's going to be rainy soon, I— I thought that I should give this to you... you know, to stay nice and warm—"
The dark-haired woman chuckled loudly, shallow divots forming on her cheeks as she grinned and took the sweater from Yeji's hands.
"Thank you, Yeji..." Ryujin said appreciatively, feeling the soft fabric between her fingers.
She slipped into the new sweater, feeling the softness and warmth envelop her. It fits perfectly, providing a comforting layer against the impending chill of the cold weather. After adjusting it on her body, Ryujin turned to Yeji with a playful grin.
